House Speaker Paul Ryan has announced that President George H. W. Bush will lie in state in the U.S. Capitol this week, giving Americans a final chance to pay their respects. The 41st president passed away peacefully in his home in Houston Friday night.
The late President George H.W. Bush will lie in state in the U.S. Capitol Rotunda beginning with an arrival ceremony on Monday at 5:00 p.m. ET. The public is invited to pay their respects from Monday, December 3 at 7:30 p.m. ET until Wednesday, December 5 at 7:00 a.m. ET. Paul Ryan (@SpeakerRyan) December 1, 2018
Ryan recognized the late president on Saturday, along with several other prominent lawmakers and presidents. Here were just a few of those messages.
George H.W. Bush was a man for all seasons: a war hero, statesman, and affectionate family man. In our sadness today, we express our deepest condolences to the Bush family. We give thanks to God for the life of this patriot. pic.twitter.com/jBMP5nfEsh Paul Ryan (@SpeakerRyan) December 1, 2018

America has lost a patriot and humble servant in George Herbert Walker Bush. While our hearts are heavy today, they are also filled with gratitude. Our thoughts are with the entire Bush family tonight and all who were inspired by George and Barbaras example. pic.twitter.com/g9OUPu2pjY Barack Obama (@BarackObama) December 1, 2018
The New York Times reports that Bush Senior's final hours were peaceful ones
I cant even hardly talk about it without welling up, said Bush's former secretary of state, James A. Baker III, who was at his side Friday. It was as gentle a passing as I think you could ever expect anyone to have. And he was ready.
Bush 41's last words to his eldest son, former President George W. Bush were, "I love you, too."
Paul Ryan’s big accomplishment since being Speaker.
“Hey I wrote one memo not attacking Conservatives”
Does “Read my lips - no new taxes” count as lying in state?
When it comes to the Bushs, lying in state follows lying to the American People.
Eventually we all die.
POTUS Bush had a full life than many could envy.
Listening to the platitudes coming from People that hated his guts and tried to destroy him and his Family makes me nauseous.
It was just a warm up for what they are doing to POTUS Trump. The difference is, when Donald J. Trump passes away they will not be so kind. He dared to push back and that will never be forgiven.
beat me to it.
He was forced by the rats to renege on his promise not to raise taxes. That is factual.
Excellent post
Picture: “Good Bye ONE WORLD.”
What else did the dims force him to do?
Watching Lou Dobbs last week, Ryan had the audacity to proclaim Mittens (Romney) as GOP’s standard bearer!!!
I just sense he’ll be constantly in communication with his former running mate to stir up nothing but trouble for President Trump.
In all his years in public life that’s the best picture they could come up with? smh
It sure does!
Lying “in state” ...
Well, why not?
He LIED every time he moved his lips!
Although he was not exactly my favorite President, I liked First Lady Barbara much better, he was 100 times better than any rat president especially the peanut farmer from Georgia, William Jefferson Clinton and that arrogant pos former occupant of 1600 Pennsylvania Ave Barack Hussein 0bama, the worst president ever.
You CAN NOT DENY that!!!
Very true. good post.
Hate ‘em when alive and pretend to respect and admire ‘em when dead. People are pathetic.
You obviously wasn’t around when the rats forced him to renege on his promise not to raise taxes, after they won the election. That is factual.
Best reread my post - I do believe that is what I implied, when writing “... every time he moved his lips!”
BTW, I’m 58 - so, yes, I was most definitely “around” at the time.
Or more specific: Hate them when they are in power and then, if they are willing to be used as tools, pretend to respect and admire them when they are out of power.
John McCain allowed himself to be used as a tool by the Democrats. He loved their praise whenever he was "crossing the aisle" or joining them in condemning a hated conservative. But when McCain was running for president and chose an unapologetic conservative as running mate, he was roundly vilified and hated. I think McCain was almost relieved he lost the election so that he could get his buddies back. Same with Romney.
It's also disgusting what GWB is allowing to be done to him. Until Trump came along, GWB was easily the most ridiculed and despised president by the Left (even more than Nixon). But now that he's harmlessly out of power and solidly on the never-Trumper bandwagon, he's suddenly adored and respected by the same Left that during his presidency made him a total laughingstock.
Makes me want to throw up.
