My prediction is that GM stock goes down, and some Chinese company buys them by 2021. Half of their production line will flip to China in the coming decade.
But here’s the key factor...most of their models were garbage. I’ve rented at least four in the past decade and found them to be mostly lousy cars for long-distance driving.

That’s already the case. GM sells more cars in China than they do in North America.
“and found them to be mostly lousy cars for long-distance driving.”
How can there be any excuse for a car built today to be lousy-driving?
I remember a car I loved to drive: the Chevy Citation. Maybe it was because the alignment guys did a good job.
I rented a new Impala a few years ago. Drove 300 miles to my event one day, back the next. The next day I hurt everywhere.. Of course that was offset by the ringing in my ears from all the road noise I had to endure from that noisy rattle trap.
I purchased a 2014 Nissan Altima 18 months ago. Despite issues with the a/c (not good in Texas), I love this car. We've had several long distance trips, it's a joy to drive. Even driving at 75+, it gets 35 mpg.
I get a lot of rental cars and I will say this: I never accept a Chevy. Not because they are bad, per se. But rather because whoever their master designer is likes to have really small rear windows with corresponding poor rear visibility. I always feel like I'm rolling the dice when I change lanes or back out of a spot. No other manufacturer has this issue as consistently as Chevy does, not even other GM brands. Don't need to deal with that so I don't take them unless that's all they have on the lot.
It is sad day for the American car business just like the bad deal Harley made during the Obama years. Trump has killed the elite deals but it is going to kill these companies. They were all counting on higher profits with a Hillary win.
I have a 2007 Pontiac G5. It has 200,000 miles will all original equipment including battery and I still get 30+ miles per gallon. great car with a lot of zip for getting around and that is the line that they dropped.
I just bought a used ‘09 CTS, and so far, so good. It may not be a Beemer or a Mercedes, but it is a good driving car. It handles well, is economical, quiet, peppy - Direct Injection DOHC VVT V-6. I wish I could have afforded a CTS-V!
The ‘08 CTS was Motor Trend’s Car of the Year, and, according to Motor Trend, the ‘09 is an improvement.
