N.J. college rejects on-campus Chick-fil-A over company's LGTBQ stance

A New Jersey college gave its students the chance to pick which new restaurant they wanted on campus -- so long as it wasn't Chick-fil-A.

After students at Rider University voted for the fast casual restaurant as their top choice in the spring, the private college sent another survey this fall and excluded the fast casual restaurant "based on the company's record widely perceived to be in opposition to the LGBTQ+ community," according to the university.

"Ultimately, we decided to lean in the direction of creating a welcoming environment where differences can be appreciated and where each individual can expect to experience dignity and respect," administrators wrote in a letter explaining the decision. "In many ways, this issue is one that goes beyond our decision and touches on a complex conversation taking place throughout the country."

The decision quickly sparked backlash, with one student telling the website Campus Reform, "they sell chicken, so as far as I am concerned that should be the focus."

It’s their loss. Chick-fil-A is really, really good.

I visited the one near Auburn University and they were the best. They had a Downs girl working there and she was the sweetest person you’d ever want to meet.

What CFA believes in, is “traditional marriage”, between a man and a woman.

They never came out against gays, and some of their employees are gay.

The left/media has skewered the facts trying to punish CFA, but it has backfired on them, big time.

I would drop out of that college and find my education in a place that is bigger on teaching, than on fake social issues.

I wonder if it’s legal to deny employment based on alma mater?

Chik-Fil-A does not discriminate based on LGBTQUERTY status. They sell chicken to anyone with money (and give away more). They don't discriminate in hiring. The company did not give money to pro-traditional marriage organizations--the owners did.

Meanwhile, what NFL players do "on the clock" in disrespecting the flag must be protected speech somehow.

I try to love everyone, but Progressives are trying my patience.

Liberals love democracy as long as you vote the way they tell you.

Traditional marriage - liberals don’t tolerate people who believe in it.

Its not cool to eat out at Chick-Fil-A due to the company’s values.

No, that’s not a protected class by itself. May be a problem if you’re talking about a college/university that is entirely or largely attended by a class (gender, race, religion). Rider University? Probably no problem. BYU, Smith, Howard or any other historically black college? Likely a problem.

Reading Rider’s statement, one would think that they beat up and throw out any LGBTQ prospective customers. We are truly fottuto.

If the college is publicly funded, CFA might have a lawsuit on civil rights grounds. State governments cannot discriminate against legitimate political speech. Suppose, for example, that the state declared that it would no longer buy things from firms owned by Republicans, members of Christian churches, etc.

In banning Chick-fil-A from their campus, I wonder what the ‘administrators’ (interesting there are no names) hope to accomplish?

So, having ‘lost’ the election, the Administrators of Rider University, put their thumb on the scale to eliminate Chick-fil-A on the basis of a LEFTist prejudice, and tried to call it an honest selection. Their standards seem to be quite tattered and their reasoning is lacking. Typical of modern Academia, LEFTism is a religion! No heretics permitted!

So this university that no one ever heard of does not welcome anyone with an opinion that differs from the official Leftist opinion. How bigoted of them. No parent should pay to have their student miseducated by such prejudiced staff.
