PARIS (AFP) – Faced with violent anti-government protests in Paris, French President Emmanuel Macron on Tuesday will announce new measures in an attempt to rally support for “environment-friendly” tax increases.

Paris was counting the cost of clashes between police and demonstrators Sunday on the Champs-Elysees where barricades were set on fire, luxury shop windows smashed, and traffic lights uprooted. Some 30 people were injured and 101 arrested, police said.

The government blamed much of the violence on a small minority of “ultra-right” activists who infiltrated some 8,000 demonstrators wearing the yellow, high-visibility vests that symbolise their week-long protests against hikes in fuel tax.

Sure, blame the “ultra right”.

Here, across the pond, it is referred to as “alt right”.

Liberals never engage in or incite violence/s

Sometimes even the sheeple have their limits. I wonder when they will reach their limit when it comes to the moslem invaders.

Ah, the French. You can rape their women, kill their Jewish citizens, and flood their streets with unemployable immigrants, but try raising their taxes or cutting leur vacances and "Laissez-rouller!"

Pepe LePeuw: "Don't protest! We are raising your taxes and making life more difficult for your benefit, you stupid peons!"

Obama must love this guy.

Good luck with it. The only thing that will dissipate the protests is an announcement the tax hikes are rescinded.

Which would be a humiliating climb down for the French government.

If Monsieur Macron hadn’t made such a complete mess out of his presidency, a mere small number of agitators — rightwing, leftwing, or whatever — couldn’t have brought down the entire City of Paris to protest against his policies.

So the French are rioting because their taxes are too high? But, it is for our children and to save the planet.

Wonder too how ingrained socialism is in the French culture? Do they realize the free stuff comes from the high taxes?

People in Europe have accepted higher taxes as devil bargain to pay for lavish welfare state benefits.

Unfortunately, governments have cut those benefits while increasing taxes. And there is little public appetite to pay new taxes for elite prestige vanity projects.

Macron faces tough selling for them and if doesn’t help him his popularity rating is in low 30s.

So Europeans are not complete fools after all. Too bad, they didn’t realize this a long time ago.

I wonder if it is fair to say I told you so - re The Paris Climate agreement.

Notice the press difference between Antifa protests in Portland and Anti-tax protests in France.
Antifa=good, Anti-Tax=bad
