Is there a single American Indian pursuit, other than completely throwing off the European conquest, that isn’t still possible? Living as a hunter-gatherer off the lands? Joining hands with the European ideas of living? Either could work. But sitting, scowling, on the fence isn’t profitable.
20 members of my Choctaw family are in my small house this afternoon celebrating family and giving thanks to God for all our blessings. (BTW, we are American Indians, not “Native Americans.” I find the latter phrase insulting and intentionally divisive.)
The British were a very nasty, snobbish, and racist. Sadly, all of Europe suffers the blame, when it was in fact, the British.
France was sending people to Canada from the 1500’s but that’s one part of history we rarely hear about. The French traded with the natives, and intermarried with them. They all got along just fine.
