Human beings are not native to the western hemisphere, the first walked here from Asia, hence the Indians looked Asian. Meanwhile, they lived idyllic lives with peace among the tribes, scientific advances, flourishing arts and music, technology and first class education for all. They better fall down on their knees and thank God that Europeans arrived here and made this land into the wonder of the world.
Allen Wright, a scholar who compiled a 'Choctaw' dictionary, is credited with
creating the state name 'Red People' or 'Oklahoma'.... Wright attended Union
Theological Seminary in NY City and obtained a Master of Arts in 1855,..
the First Native American in Indian Territory to do so.
I wonder if the heap, big squaw; Fakahontous was there?
IF not, why not? Wouldn’t this be the perfect venue for her to take up
for her “roots”???
As a direct descendant of the Mayflower pilgrims, may I be the first to say NOT SORRY.
As an American Indian, my husband is very thankful to God, today, for many things: his family, his country, the values his parents instilled in him. He is very patriotic, and his gratitude to our armed forces over the years, is great. Does he mourn the lives of ancestors and other fellow Indians, lost in the conflicts between the government and settlers? Or course. Just as we southerners and northerners are saddened by our ancestors’ civil war losses. But it does not diminish the love and support he has for our country, and its greatness. He is also a loud and proud supporter of President Trump. Many of his relatives do not agree with him about some of those things, which grieves him, but he is firm in his love for America in general, as well as other American Indians. It is possible to love and respect both.
The entrance of the white man in North America helped to stop the canibalistic practices of the natives. Massasoit made a pact with the Pilgrims by necessity. The Wampanoag tribe was in danger of being eaten by other tribes in New England
I guess they never learned about what the various cultures did when they moved across Europe.
No victorious tribe ever built a reservation for the defeated.
Yes, those inimitable cultural charms that made the “ Native Americans’’ the happy children of the forest.
Scalp me another one keemo sabe.
Animism remains a spiritual problem — as you pointed out, the earth could be imputed a spirit and a power that is its own and that could complain about being fracked for gas. Monotheism did away with such conundrums. We thank God for that earth and honor Him by using it as wisely as we can.
Right, because it was a veritable Garden of Eden in the Western hemisphere before the Europeans showed up.....or so we’re led to believe.
I bet more white liberal activists show up for this gathering than Injuns.
A small number of self righteous, leftist native Americans are mourning. The majority by far Im sure are watching football, eating turkey, and celebrating time with their families.
And being thankful.
Columbus Day and now Thanksgiving are outrages to Native Americans. Who will soon be offended by Independence Day and Memorial Day? Certainly Arbor Day and Groundhog Day must sooner or later piss off some group or another.
Careful what you wish for, as it may be visited upon you.
Don't forget metallurgy (iron, steel), horses. and the wheel.
They’d all be extinct if it weren’t for the European and American White Men and Women, and our inventions and discoveries. Their choice not to assimilate is a poor choice.
Look up what the Comanchees did to all other tribes they encountered and get back to me on the friken pilgrams.
Knock off your whining about history. It’s over, and yes, even YOU have plenty about which to be thankful.
What Indians can be thankful for...
Wheat flour, rye, rice, barley, oats, beef, chicken, sheep, pork, cheese, iron, steel, brass, bronze, horses, wheels wagons, lard for fry bread, plus the fact that the tribe next door, which was once your enemy, is not planning to attack and kill every man, woman, and child, in your village.
