Beans and corn will keep you alive.
Better yet tortillas, or anything made from tortilla flour, its very nutritious.

Not only will they keep you alive, they will keep you warm. Keeps them bed covers floating all night long.
Where do they grow the tortillas?
They were giving them refried beans labeled onto bread and made into a bean sandwich.
Beggars can’t be choosers. And Mexico may not be able tcontinue paying for the hundreds of thousands freeloading off of them .
When traveling, make sure you have safe, reliable transportation, that you can afford food from diners and cafes on the road. Have money to pay for a roof over your head at night.
Beans and corn will keep you alive.
Better yet tortillas, or anything made from tortilla flour, its very nutritious.

Hmmm...this is interesting. Honduran tortillas, at least in the more traditional rural areas where I live, are made of corn and a little lard or oil, nothing else. The corn is, however, prepared by an ancient Mayan process scientifically known as “nixtamalization”. The dried corn kernels are boiled in lime water for two or three hours, then hulled and ground on stone matates. Thus, in effect, the tortillas and tamales are made of ground hominy. Flour tortillas are mostly a city thing because wheat is not readily available to rural campesinos.
The caravan people for the most part are city-dwellers, few of whom probably know anything about nixtamal nor much of any kind of manual labor to provide food for a family.
This reminds me of a few things I miss most living in Central America: pinto beans, habanero chiles, and I’m about to give a plane ticket to the US for a couple pounds of good liverwurst!
