Let’s just say for a moment that this “poll” is correct (and I have my doubts, serious doubts).
Well, just as new citizens who are refugees from Communist and Socialist nations tend to be the most anti-Communist and anti-Socialist, having experienced first hand the evils and impracticality of those two perverse ideologies...
...then so would the transplants from places like CA, NY, NJ (like myself), etc. be 100% against the Socialist policies of Beta Male and the Texas Demonrats, because we saw first hand what those policies did to our home states. Heck, Cruz himself is an indirect refugee from a Communist country, having grown up in a very anti-Castro, anti-Communist household.
Knowing that, and having a similar family background (my grandparents on my father’s side ran from Communism in Russia in the 1920s, and those left there led miserable lives for the next 75 years), I personally trust a guy like Cruz a WHOLE lot more than Beta Male. I’d trust Cruz more even if they were espousing essentially the same policies, as Beta Male is automatically suspect for being an empty suit representative of his wife’s $20 billion family.

The Dallas Snooze is completely wrong. Just the opposite. Natives voted for Cruz. California types went for Beto.

What saved Ted Cruz was not the transplants but all the MAGA hat wearers in all the red counties outside the blue cities.

A lot of Latin American anchor babies have gotten naturalized in the past 4 years. It’s not so much that Hispanics vote as a block for the Democrats, as they vote 60-40 for the Dems. As their numbers as a % of the population start creeping up, GOP victory margins start shrinking.

I agree with you, I supported Cruz early on, but after the way Trump manhandled him in the 2016 nomination I changed my opinion to "wait and see" on how he will respond in the future. Has he gone "luke warm? Has he changed course? Can he work with Trump? Questions a lot of us Texans are asking.
Beto definitely lies better and is "prettier" than Cruz. Cruz's appearance is ugly, almost as ugly as Lyndon Johnson was during his day. But Texans don't send their representatives to Washington based on looks, they send them to represent our values and way of life. Ol' Lyndon may not have been pretty, but Washington quickly learned not to f**k with him. A lot of that attitude still survives in Texas today.
Just ask Wendy Davis about winning an election in Texas. She had her "15 minutes of fame" and was slightly prettier than Beto but she did not have the money ol' Beto spent. But money can't always buy you the love of Texas voters. (Not sure Ladybird would agree with me on that.)
Cruz still managed to win but hopefully he knows he is expendable. O'Rourke OTOH, needs to run for the Democratic POTUS nomination in 2020 as our gift to Washington.

I’m a Native Texan and I didn’t vote for “Beto” O’Rourke either. I guess that makes me a racist because I voted for “Ted” Cruz.

I’m not sure what happened (fraud?) and it was a LOT closer than I expected, but native/transplants ain’t the reason.
