Trump says it's 'good time to do a (government) shutdown' (for border wall funding)
Washington Examiner ^ | Saturday, November 17, 2018 | Stephen Dinan

With Congress still not on board his border wall plans, President Trump said Saturday that it’s a “good time to do a shutdown,” suggesting he will refuse to accept any appropriations bills that don’t include the $5 billion he’s asking for.

He did say he doesn’t think one will happen because “Democrats will come to their senses” on the issue.

And he said he’s ready to keep the troops he deployed to the border as long as necessary.

“We’re talking about border wall, we’re talking about quite a big sum of money, about $5 billion,” he told reporters at the White House before jetting off to California to survey the effort to contain wildfires. “This would be a very good time to do a shutdown. I don’t think it’s going to be necessary, because I think the Democrats will come to their senses, and if they don’t come to their senses, we will continue to win elections.”

For most people in Washington a government shutdown is a sign of failure, but Mr. Trump views it as a weapon to be deployed, and at times has even seemed eager over the possibility.

He said before the election he was cooling shutdown talk because Republicans on Capitol Hill convinced him it was hurting them. But with the election over, he appears emboldened again.

A shutdown now would be less painful than the GOP-orchestrated 16-day shutdown in 2013 because Congress has already approved — and Mr. Trump signed — five of the 12 annual spending bills into law. covering about 70 percent of discretionary government funding.

There is a Dec. 7 deadline, though, for funding operations at the State, Interior, Homeland Security, Justice and other departments.

Maggie , the elections were under investigation for months before Nov. 6th ,, just in California there is open testimony from officials regarding soliciting illegal aliens to vote. This has been going on since before B1-Bob was ousted. Expect a sh*tstorm on or around the new year. We will get laws passed regarding mandatory minimum standards for a state run election for any federal office. Trump hasn't been sleeping , he has been laying the groundwork, just as Sessions was in place to give the illusion that "they" were winning and to allow the groundwork to continue.

Lets revisit this after the Christmas recess...

I haven't been this hopeful since the "Miracle on Ice" , so I'll put this in a way you might understand "Don't harsh my buzz.". Trump is a fighter , He is General Grant and Andrew Jackson in one ,, with Pattons intellect and will...

At the border, people are getting frightened. Commerce is slowing down. Hordes are threatening to force their way through the border at various places , disperse into their neighborhoods and cause dangerous disruption.

No country is morally rquired to accept and absorb even asylum seekers if they will overwhelm the capabilities of the country.

Trump had better do whatever it takes to keep these people out regardless of political consequences or he will lose his base.

Right now he has a majority in the House and a majority in the Senate. He doesn't need Democrats to fund the wall. If it isn't funded then blame his own party.

when the DHS is required to report on the election fraud (EO 13848)

That executive order applies to foreign interference in elections only. Not other kinds of election fraud.

You're making things up. I don't think that's helpful.

Sessions has been recused, Trump didn't like that and now Sessions is gone.

Illegal alien votes are foreign interference.

Please sir—don’t trade DACA for anything.

Just send all illegals home! Think how they will improve the labor capital and know-how now in their home countries. Here they function at the lower end of our labor markets, on average, but at home they would be able to contribute toward the higher-end of the labor market, helping to pull their countries’ economies upward.

There isn't going to be a SINGLE Democrat refused a seat in the House. Nor will there be a single law passed "regarding mandatory minimum standards for a state-run election for any federal office."

How do I know this? Because there isn't a shred of evidence for what you assert, and there would be if it were remotely true. It isn't.

You are delusional.

It's a really happy delusion, but a delusion it is.

Instead of blaming a shutdown on the dems Trump advertises that he wants to shut down the government. We shall see how well this approach works.

I think the President should bypass Congress altogether and appeal directly to the American people.

Sixty-five million of us voted for him. If every one of us donated a measly $20 to a Wall Fund, it would come to $1.3 Billion dollars.

” I expect Trump to shift funds ,, give necessary funds to Army corp of engineers and label the wall a high priority necessary defense project.”

if the dems can claim that climate change needs to be addressed in order to protect America; certainly, building a wall is more critical to securing our nation than funding this secular cult.
