Red Britain Looms
City Journal ^ | November 15, 2018 | Theodore Dalrymple

Posted on 11/16/2018 5:34:58 AM PST by Salman

Thanks to the current imbroglio over Brexit, Britain could soon be Venezuela without the oil or the warm weather. The stunning incompetence of the last two Tory prime ministers, David Cameron and Theresa May, might result in a Labour government, one led by Jeremy Corbyn, a man who has long admired Hugo Chavez for having reminded him—though not the people of Venezuela—what governments can do for the poor and the achievement of social justice.

Corbyn’s second in command, John McDonnell, would, as Chancellor of the Exchequer, be in charge of the economy. Only five years ago, he said that the historical figures he most admired were Marx, Lenin, and Trotsky, and though he later claimed that he meant it as a joke, he is not otherwise known as an ironist.

Further down in the article is this quote.

An economic disaster, far from deterring such a government, would be of enormous advantage to it, if you assume that its purpose is the exercise of control in the name of irreversible social and political change.
This reminds me of lot of the seemingly irrational things the USA Democratic Party does.

The USA Democrat party hasn’t had an original thought in decades.

The American leftists blindly follow the UK and Europe. They are inteellectually originality deficient

Policies which succeed, allow people to rely on government less.
Policies which fail, force people to rely on government more.

The Left specializes in policies which fail. That’s their goal. They want power.

I would summarize the arc of British decline if Queen Elizabeth’s first Prime Minister was Winston Churchill and her last was Jeremy Corbyn.

When I saw the article listed, I thought it would be about Britain becoming “Red” as in “Red State.” But sadly, it’s becoming “Red” in the earlier connotation of the term.

Britain went through this in the 70’s. After several years of riots and interminable strikes they wised-up and installed Margaret Thatcher.

The older I get and the more I see, the more I am convinced that this nation should stay out of other nations problems.

It is reasonable to refuse to trade with certain countries, but sending our youth to die because of their actions should never happen unless is clearly necessary for the survival of our country.

Britain and France are clear examples of why we should not fight other’s battles.

Thousands of our young men died for the freedom of English and French people and now they throw that freedom away.

And insult us as they throw it away.

Of all we have helped, only a few are stable today.

I’m sorry but I can’t see how Labor at this point can be any worse than the Dhimmi totalitarian government of May.
