Jeff Sessions weighs possible bid for old Senate seat in Alabama

Jeff Sessions, ousted as President Trump’s attorney general this week, is contemplating a run for his old Alabama Senate seat in 2020 against Democratic Sen. Doug Jones -- though those who know Sessions aren't convinced he will ultimately pull the trigger on another campaign.

A source close to the former attorney general told Fox News that Sessions is “considering it but his mind isn't made up.” That person added that Sessions, known for his stances on illegal immigration and trade, “was advocating for the Trump agenda back when it was called the Sessions agenda.”

Others, though, don’t see Sen. Sessions 2.0 actually happening.

“He should spend his time being the devoted husband, father, and grandfather we know he is,” said Garrett Murch, a former Sessions Senate aide.

Another plugged-in Alabama politico who knows Sessions said, “I think he plans to have a private life.”

Sessions told Judith Miller in a Wall Street Journal interview published Friday that he hasn’t decided on his future plans, though said, “I want some family time and to let my head clear.”

Sessions also defended Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s probe in the interview, saying he’s “confident” it will be handled “appropriately and with justification.”

While he didn’t rule out a run, Sessions told the paper he is now drawn more to executive, rather than legislative, public service.

Still, those in Alabama touting a possible Sessions return to the Senate include Luther Strange, the Republican who temporarily replaced Sessions in the Senate last year. In a tweet Wednesday, Strange said, “Jeff Sessions for Senate in 2020!”

Competition from whom? mo Brooks? Moore? Strange has endorsed him. (Though I wouldn’t be surprised if Strange runs if Sessions doesn’t.)

Plenty of senators who are older than that.

It’s so sad. He was a decent senator, but being AG was just beyond him, but was probably a huge goal in his life. If he’d done his job, I bet we’d still have the house, if enough of the corruption was exposed for even the Comedy Central twits to be disgusted.

Maybe he should serve one term and mentor someone conservative to take over. Brooks?

After winning, he could recuse himself from voting.

All the “history” about Sessions stint as AG should give people cause for concern. He was either totally incompetent or the demodummies had a lot hanging over his head. Simply he’s stupid (he is not) or he is a crooked sucker. Probably will be running as a demodummie and get elected.

you say....Age wise he should retire...

Totally agree...this Dec. he will be 72...in 2020 he will be two years older...it is time to stop making Congress an ‘old age home’...

TERM LIMITS NEEDED AND AGE LIMITS ALSO...

JEFF SESSIONS was well liked at one time, but he just doesn’t have any ‘fire in the belly’ left..and that happens as we age...time for him to hang it up...
He more than likely will be writing a BOOK, seems to be the way of life with Professional Politicians...

That ‘Dutch boy’ hair style ...

Is as fake and phony as she is...and that is my opinion as a former long time hairdresser...
When we old timers stop working the first thing we see on anyone is...their hair..lol
My hubby says...WE JUST NEVER LOSE THAT GIFT...IT IS ALWAYS THERE...

“my opinion as a former long time hairdresser...”

So you know how to cut an authentic Dorothy Hamill wedge - my personal favorite? Stylists now are clueless.

That’s right.....Sessions will take time off no doubt but that political ‘itch’ will come back strong for this one I think. But he is good about immigration so we’ll see.

Judith Miller used to strike me as a pretty fair reporter. She may not be “one of us” but it isn’t hard to find leftwing critics attacking her, so there’s that in her favor. I don’t recall reading anything recent by her, so maybe she’s changed, but if so I don’t know about it.

I don’t know about the EO, nor did I think Sessions had to recuse. If he had to recuse, Rosenstein sure had 5x more reasons to. And Mueller is also conflicted. But you don’t go through years of hullabaloo just to invalidate it all after the fact.

I will say that that the leaks about RR secretly wanting to tape Trump etc could have easily come from the White House to sew confusion among his enemies. The media half-way reported it came from McCabe, which is also possible if Trump’s enemies thought RR was going to flip sides they’d try to sour RR in the eyes of Trump.

Palace intrigue! In the end all I want is justice. I think Trump has been vindicated, they got zilch. For justice to prevail, put HRC/DNC and FBI/DOJ/Obama WH under the same damn microscope. We all know there are tons more evidence against all those conspirators and the lack of investigation is more than frustrating. Putting Sessions out is strongly suggestive of the idea that Trump thinks Sessions did a crap job on all this and more. I think it is clear the FBI tried to set up Papadopoulis, Carter Page and DJTjr among others. They need to be called in for questioning, and I say it almost certainly needs to be done by a new SP. The DOJ cannot possibly investigate itself no matter who’s in charge or who has left the service.

True. And nearly all of them need to go. Sadly, Sessions did such a poor job in less than 2 years of service as AG that a return to the Senate would be rewarding him. Let’s get someone in who will be ruthless for our side.

This video does possibly the best job I have seen of explaining what went on with both the election and Jeff Sessions:
