undervote is a technical term for a ballot selection being left blank, i.e. the voter chose not to choose either candidate. It’s common and the term has existed since I studied statistics in college in the eighties.
A 4% undervote is not an unusual percentage and is not suspicious in and of itself.
I always write in a cartoon character when I don’t like the choices for the simple reason that leaving a section unmarked opens the door for dishonest election workers to fill it in for you.
This article is setting up expectations in order to enable exactly that. Doctor the undervoted ballots and claim it was a machine error in reading them, after the inevitable recount magically changes the outcome.
This problem is easy to fix is the state legislature would do so.
All ballots are sealed in the ballot box at the end of voting , no exceptions. Any ballot after the close of polls is invalid.
Ballot boxes are to be secured by the state police with watchers from all parties present during their total transit time to the final counting. The counting is in the presence of all parties.
Get rid of electronic balloting as the security of it is no better than the political alliance of the computer programmer and there is no paper trail to determine if fraud had happened.
Get rid of early voting though I do use it. Early voting is a nexus of voter fraud. It is evil.

Circa Ronald Regan’s first election I would be out of the country on election day. I was working in the North Sea. I informed the registrar of voters where to send my ballot at a drilling rig in the middle of the North Sea. It arrived, I voted and put Norwegian stamps on my ballot and put it in the rig mail box and the chopper pilots just put it in the Norwegian Mail System at Sola. I VOTED. That is the way it is supposed to be.
We did not have early voting then.
So would they actually go in and remark the ballot if there was not a vote there?
I imagine this happened with Obama as well.
The Broward County election staff were directed to use their judgment to "interpret what the voter probably intended to do" when the ballot was marked.
It's hard to believe we're sitting here 18 years later and they still haven't figured out how to run an election down there.
