Sure, Why Not: John James Trails Debbie Stabenow By Two Points In New Michigan Poll
Hot Air ^ | 6 Nov 2018 | ALLAHPUNDIT

James pulling the upset in Trump-friendly Michigan is a longer shot than Bob Menendez losing in Trump-hostile New Jersey. I wouldn’t wager on it even with someone else’s money. But I’m throwing this goofy poll at you anyway because:

1) It’s Election Day eve and goofy outliers are fun, like a suspiciously large present under the Christmas tree. What’s in that box? Probably it’s just a pair of socks placed in an oversized container as a gag gift. In fact, that’s definitely what it is. But there’s just enough doubt to create a bit of suspense.

2) I like James and liked him even more after this exchange with Rudy Giuliani. The man’s name is “John,” Rudy. And Rudy — or is it “Randy”? — will never forget it again.

3) This is at least the third bananas poll in the past 24 hours from the Democratic firm Change Research.

The big difference here is that MI does not have early voting. That means all those 2 week old polls are irrelevant. Any last minute shift or break for James can put him in the hunt...

My cousin lives next door to John James. Seriously he does. My cousin is a liberal guy lives conservative life but he is Jewish so he tends to vote Democrat. He made a Facebook post today that he voted for John James. I’m sure that was one of the most thought-out and somewhat difficult votes he ever made but I was happy but I had to not gloat on his post

Polling MI must be tough

In 2016 Polling had Hillary winning the D primary by 20..she lost.

In 2016 they had Hillary winning the state in the General election...she lost.

The only criticism I can come up with for President Trump is I wish he had gone to MI not MO last night. I think we have MO but a Trump rally maybe would have grabbed us MI

Trump is not swinging for the fences. He wants the solid gains in the Senate and is focusing on that and I think it is the correct strategy. Even though it is tough to see him leave behind Michigan

Upstate counties may hand the election to James if its close and they went big for Trump in 2016.

If its like 2016, Detroit won’t matter.

Michigan-Voted an hour ago. (8:15 am) Longer lines than normal for midterms. IMO the Michigan Republicans made an itty bitty boo boo: allowing the marijuana proposal to be on for this election. I stood in line next to a guy who I am sure had his 8 am beer. Not to be a bigot or anything, but I bet he was voting YES for marijuana. He may not have shown up if it weren’t for the marijuana vote. While he was there he most likely voted more liberal for candidates.

(Not a given as some Libertarians would vote that way.)

Excellent. What was it about James that convinced him to vote for him? Just thought he was a good guy or was there something specific?

Detroit’s usually is the black hole that swamps Rs in MI. But if its close, they do hava chance,

If the race isn’t called when the polls close tonight, look for a James upset.
Sometimes the good guys do win.

I mean the central and eastern counties on the LP north of Detroiit. If they turn Red, a win is possible within a few thousand votes.

MI still has nothing like the WOW in neighboring Wi.

The Rats made damn sure the weed prop was on this ballot. Trump was probably smart not to come here. For James to have a shot he must get some Detroit crossovers. I sometimes listen to the Urban talk radio station and it is killing them to support an older white woman over a young black man

They do not HAVE to vote for the old, white woman. There IS a choice. It will be interesting to see the result.

Good point

What ever happens today I have to hand it to President Trump. I have not had this much fun with politics since 1984.

He certainly made it much more interesting this year.

Never has any President done more to drag his party, kicking and screaming, across the finish line to electoral victory.

We don’t know.

If this was a normal year, Stabenow would win in a walk.

That she’s beatable is quite telling, indeed.

Here is my cousins post...i was the relative mentioned below. My cousin has presumably had many patio conversations with JJ .

_________start of post ____

Earlier this fall I had a relative who mentioned to me I needed to stop thinking about politics, my thoughts were about racism, bigotry and the silent majority (Congress) that we’re ignoring the truth, forgetting about family values, and neighborly love...tomorrow I will vote for my next door neighbor for US Senate, while we disagree on many issues, he truly wants to represent all the people, he has fought for our democracy and he is young, with an open mind, he believes we pay are teachers to little and need to do more for our veterans, I have watched him evolve, and he is a Republican. Unlike him I embrace evolution and a woman’s right to choose, however our entitlement system needs to change and we need to disavow all state sponsored terrorism. We should think twice about who we invite to our country, including, Putin, Kim un Dung and Those from the House of Saud, they are a total fraud and represent a clear and present danger to our Great Democracy, yet our President warmly embraces them...I am a Progressive Conservative, and love Tom Styers impeach now movement...maybe John James will restore dignity to the Republican Party...

I was in a local grocery store two days ago. There were two ladies talking about politics, quite vocal, couldn’t miss what was being said...

A: “....they’re all CRAZY....NANCY PELOSI???? Are you kidding me??? Then there’s MAXINE WATERS!!!!”

B: “I KNOW!!!!”

...etc...

Here’s the thing. Where I live in Michigan (Sterling Heights), it has a very large Chaldean (Iraqi Catholic) population. My neighbors are from Iraq. PDJT came here during 2016, some astute person knew this county could be flipped red. These people have LARGE families and have a very strong family culture. If these two Chaldean’s were any reflection of that demographic as a whole....we’ll see a wave of blood.

Concur on the polls; Nate Silver gave Hillary a 99 percent chance of winning the primary over Sanders as she was 20 percent ahead in the polls. Also, while they recognized Trump was coming up, they still thought Trump would lose MI by 5-6 percentage points. I was curious as well why Trump didn’t do another midnite appearance in Grand Rapids on Election Eve like he did the last time.

Trump isn’t focusing on long shot races, only those that appear winnable.

If Renacci kills off Brown in OH, Stabenow next door is likely toast.

Turnout is the key tonight.
