Midterms will be 'most secure' elections in US history: DHS chief
ABC News ^ | Nov 2, 2018, 1:06 PM ET | LEE FERRAN

Tuesday’s midterm elections will be the “most secure” elections in U.S. history, according to Secretary of Homeland Security Kirstjen Nielsen, though the U.S. government remains on high alert for any election-related mischief.

“This is going to be the most secure election we’ve ever had,” Nielsen told the audience at a Council on Foreign Relations event on Friday. “But as we all know, this is a dynamic threat, it changes by the minute.”

Nielsen said that “as of today,” DHS has not seen a coordinated attempt by a foreign government to interfere in American voting infrastructure, such as voter databases, polling systems and voting machines, but pledged to notify state and local officials “the moment that changes.”

“Everyone should vote. Everyone should feel confident that state and local [officials] are doing everything they can to secure the infrastructure,” she said. “Because a very important thing here is the adversary wins if we don’t vote, right?”

.....

Nielsen said such online influence operations were “very pernicious” and “much more difficult to get our hands around” than the effort to secure election infrastructure. The FBI has taken lead on battling the disinformation online, but Nielsen said much of the strategy comes down to “educating” the American public to consider the source of the information they’re reading.

.......

“My biggest concern,” Nielsen said, “is that a foreign entity will take the opportunity after the election or the night of the election to attempt to sow discord through social media by suggesting that something did not work as it should in a certain area.”

Information operations experts recently described to ABC News the difficulty in fighting the online disinformation campaigns, as foreign and domestic trolls and bots continuously evolved to skirt new security policies implemented by social media companies.

Some of the article consists of stupid comments by one "John Cohen, former acting under secretary for intelligence and analysis at DHS" who is already sowing doubt about what Nielsen says.

Also very noteworthy is the only kind of voting or election fraud mentioned is "RUSSIA RUSSIA RUSSIA" and foreign hacking or influence. Not one single mention of illegals voting, other non-citizens voting, dead people voting, people voting multiple times, machines "malfunctioning" and many other ways we have seen during the last couple of elections.

I am 100% sure that Nielsen is not mentioning the many other kinds of voting fraud that DHS has been investigating, such as illegals voting so as not to warn the Dems that they are under the microscope. People have been arrested, recently in Texas, for organizing voting fraud. DHS has been very, very quiet about their methods and goals. VP Pence was the head of a commission or whatever it was called to go through state voting rolls and make sure they were all up and up but many states refused to cooperate.

So elections were designated a National Security issue and placed under DHS.

Kirstjen "DACA" Nielsen!!!

I trust her on the elections as much as I trust her on border security.

The states run their own elections. The feds don’t have anything to do with their “security.”

Not one single mention of illegals voting, other non-citizens voting,

There is nothing stopping illegals, non-citizens, felons, or other prohibited persons from registering to vote and then voting.

Did you have to show your birth certificate, naturalization papers, or criminal background check when you registered? I didn't. All I needed was an ID.

While it is illegal for prohibited people to vote, it's only if they get caught. There is no machine in place to flag them at the registration or ballot-casting process.

Illegals cannot legally get drivers licenses in most states, which are generally used as IDs.

The 12 states which allow illegals to get drivers licenses are thus tacitly or opening allowing illegals to vote. In OR and CA and maybe other states, those getting DL are automatically registered to vote, which is another pile of crap.

It seems that in order to register to vote, one should have to prove citizenship, and I hope that changes.

Unless, of course, ICE sets up covert cameras and runs DHS’s facial recognition suite using their combined databases.

Gotta start somewhere. It will be interesting to see how this election goes, and what is made public about whatever DHS has been doing. Obviously a lot more than running down the rabbit hole of “Russian meddling”.

Now that elections have been deemed a National Security issue, that may change the situation. Certainly elections for federal offices such as Congress and president.

National elections can't be fixed right now precisely because control is distributed.

The only reason to consolidate them under federal control is so the feds can fix them.

Even though elections are run state by state, it is still illegal for non-citizens to vote, so states can be held accountable, and maybe even election results not accepted from some states, if illegals are known to be voting there.

It will be interesting. I remember in the 2012 election there were dozens and dozens of articles on FR documenting egregrious fraud.
