Not just Hollywood: Workers across entertainment say Time's Up (treated worse than in finance!)

Roughly a year since stories of harassment and discrimination at work started to dominate the headlines, professionals in entertainment say the problems facing their industry are more pervasive than what you might think.

This reality surfaces in our survey, in partnership with CNBC’s Closing The Gap series, on the state of gender in the entertainment industry. (The first LinkedIn-CNBC analysis, revealed in June, focused on the gap in the finance industry.) We received more than 1,000 responses from LinkedIn members working in entertainment and the motion picture/film industry in the U.S.

(snip)

In the charts below, you’ll see that workers in front and behind the camera agree that discrimination and harassment remains top of mind for many women across the industry. And while many witness bad behavior, very few feel comfortable reporting it.

(snip)

In June, we asked financial professionals a similar set of questions. While the outlook is bleak among finance workers when it comes to this topic, it is much worse in the world of entertainment.

There is a lot of information here, but in short:

-women are treated unfairly in entertainment
-this treatment is bad both the creative and 'back office' areas
-women are treated worse in entertainment than in finance!!

What the likes of Harvey Weinstein and others in this field did to women was abhorrent. Yes, everyone can say "no" but no real man would have put a woman in that sort of position in the first place.

The entertainment industry is one of those sectors that claim to be all high and mighty and tell all us little people how to behave and act....then turn around and act like one of the lowest forms of filth on the planet. They won't fix themselves from within...it's not in their DNA. And while there ARE good people in this sector, they are crowded out by the other lot.

Thus, this story presents yet another opportunity for men and women/Deplorables of good character to rise up and keep pounding them on these points. For example, when some entertainment type tries to blame Trump for, say, the shooting in Pittsburgh (saying Trump is anti-Semitic is like saying Obama is pro-gun), rub this in their faces.

I've heard that the AVERAGE income for members of the screen actors guild is something under $5,000 per year in one of the most expensive cities on the planet. Of course, most of them must supplement by washing cars, tending bar, waiting tables, etc.

Since those at the top of the pyramid are among the most vocal of wanting to embrace full socialism for America, perhaps they should be required to actually try income equalization in THEIR industry first.

Really? The "casting couch" is a thing in entertainment? I would not have guessed.

I would agree with you, except the price of the tickets would need to be smaller. You see, it’s not the actors that make the BIG money. It’s the producers; the money people.

Just wondering how the “Hollywood SPJ Leadership” feels about turning over some of their executive positions to Gentiles?

“You see, it’s not the actors that make the BIG money. It’s the producers; the money people.”

Exactly! The actors are just a little farther up the serfs food chain in Hollywood, unless they have the fortune “marry into” (aka sleeping their way to the top) the studio oligarchy.

Watch you favorite TV shows. You have started to see the stars listed as producers. This is akin to get your bonus in stock. This means they get cash on the back ends.

I saw a facebook post which recommended that Socialist Hollywood should socialize the film industry in order to help unemployed and underemployed actors.
