Democrats boycotted Wednesdays hearing on another slate of President Trumps judicial nominees, continuing their attempts to hinder Republicans plans to stock the courts with an army of conservative judges.
The Judiciary Committee heard from four nominees, including two picks for the 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals, one of the most liberal panels in the country and long a target for Republicans who complain of activist liberal judges.
Wednesdays boycott is the second in a row after Democrats refused to show for a hearing last week on other court picks.
Democrats say it is unprecedented to hold hearings on judges while senators are home preparing for the November election.
But Republicans said Sen. Dianne Feinstein, the committees ranking Democrat, struck a deal with GOP Chairman Chuck Grassley in August to hold the hearings in late October, knowing the Senate could be out of session at the time.

It’s a shame they don’t have rules in the Senate that prohibit boycotting by committee members when it comes to Constitutional duties.
DiFi agreed to these hearings and then welched.
Why is the constitution considered “far right wing”
They must be out placing bombs in mail boxes of prominent Dummocrats.
A hearing (”taking down sworn testimony”) can be done with only a single senator if such a hearing has been scheduled according to rules. This actually happens more often than might be thought because transcripts are available.
At least two minority party members are required to pass such a nomination to the floor.

...1. Seven Members of the Committee, actually present, shall constitute a quorum for the purpose of discussing business. Nine Members of the Committee, including at least two Members of the minority, shall constitute a quorum for the purpose of transacting business. No bill, matter, or nomination shall be ordered reported from the Committee, however, unless a majority of the Committee is actually present at the time such action is taken and a majority of those present support the action taken.
2. For the purpose of taking down sworn testimony, a quorum of the Committee and each Subcommittee thereof, now or hereafter appointed, shall consist of one Senator...
Mitch wont put the senate on official recess since Trump would replace Sessions.
It used to be recognized as a refactor filibuster, but now Grassley has said the Blue slip is part of ADVISE and consent. And not turning it in means you have advised, but the the full Senate gets to consent.
“The Judiciary Committee heard from four nominees,”
seems they still had hearing, so seems things stayed on track though some chose to shirk their duty to their constituents to be there in person as they should be if on the committee and Di approved this time of year for the meetings.
bet they still get their salary
Vote, and confirm the Judges w/o the rats-—Grow a set Republican senators!!
You got an ok start w Kavanaugh, now grow some!!!
“Can they proceed without the rats?”
Yep.
“criticized the GOP for moving ahead with the hearings”
The Dems made a deal to move these nominess, and double-crossed immediately. Grassley just drives on.
So can the Dems delay this procedure indefinitely just by not showing up? How would judges ever get confirmed?
No.
Senate Majority Leader can bypass the committee and bring it to the floor. Or senators can be arrested and carried to meetings (it’s happened before!).
These kinds of delays are just stunts, and give permission to the other party to pull the same stunts at some point in the future.
This is kamikaze stuff with no thought of their own future.
Whew, thanks for the info.
