Solution: No more luxury handouts. End LBJ’s Great Society bullshit*t. Powdered milk, powdered eggs, large cans of string beans. Purchase clothing at Gooddwill. Zero cell phones. Zero AC. Zero flat screens. Zero chips. Zero cable. Public transportation or walk! Zero cars. Zero donuts. Zero cake. Zero cola. Get your fat ass to work if you want the good stuff.

Gee, I guess Tigertown Texas will have to conduct a nation-wide search for AMERICAN CITIZENS to do the job and OFFER THEM SOLID WAGES, INSTEAD OF THE PESOS THEY OFFERED THE ILLEGAL ALIENS!

To bad, so sad; they wouldn't be in this predicament if they had originally HIRED AMERICAN CITIZENS, INSTEAD OF CHEAP LABOR ILLEGALS WHO HAD NO RIGHT TO BE WORKING IN THE FIRST PLACE!

“What the industry needs are legal guest workers, says Load Trail CEO Hiebert”

Then you had better call up your reps and tell them to support closing the border and enforcing immigration laws, because you are never getting a guest work program until we fix those problems.

Welding is one of the vocations I've been encouraging young folk who don't want to do the college thing. It's sad that illegals are taking it over as well.

"You have to work hard," he says in Spanish.

Says the illegal who hasn't even bothered to learn to speak English.

I call bullshit. I can weld steel, aluminum, stainless, nickel, titanium, etc.
I took courses in metallurgy to keep up on the newest trends.
When I went to a boat manufacturing company and showed my certifications they where more than happy to hire me at $15 dollars an hour. II told them I was a certified for underwater welding. They entire place was filled with Cubans. I told then for $15 an hour I’ll weld black steel only.
They wanted me to weld stainless steel tuna towers and high bridges.
I didn’t study for years to become a high grade welder for $15 dollars an hour. I used to at nuclear plants making $46. I will bag groceries before I weld for $15 an hour. This isn’t taught in schools anymore or any other trade raft. These snowflakes need an electrician to install a lightbulb.
I think they almost want it that way. The owner makes a profit, the worker gets paid, and the get to TAX the service.
Why not have an apprenticeship? Bring in some kids that show potential and as they become better advance their skills beyond just welding black steel for trailers. I would be happy to teach anyone that wants to learn but I’m not doing it for 15 bucks an hour.
Lets start at 100k, 2 week vacation,, full medical, 401K, bonus for every student that passes a 6G welding test.
They don’t want o pay a craftsman, they want a yard monkey.
Guess ill stick to bagging groceries.

And “brutish” labor, “lugging” steEl around? Sounds like npr doesn’t know any kind of work other than sitting on your butt in front of a computer. Or maybe osha needs to visit this place to protect the poor exploited mexicans.

I'm sure all of these (funny how they never call them what they are, first it's undocumented now unauthorized) friggin illegals! were certified welders too, right? Or I guess that's not important with trailers hauling heavy loads on public highways.

Maybe additionally DOT should make the company recall and inspect any trailer they cannot prove was welded by a certified welder.

$20 an hour?

https://www.wsj.com/articles/the-140-000-a-year-welding-job-1420659586

HOUSTON—Justin Friend’s parents have doctoral degrees and have worked as university lecturers and researchers. So Mr. Friend might have been expected to head for a university after graduating from high school in Bryan, Texas, five years ago.

Instead, he attended Texas State Technical College in Waco, and received a two-year degree in welding. In 2013, his first full year as a welder, his income was about $130,000, more than triple the average annual wages for welders in the U.S. In 2014, Mr. Friend’s income rose to about $140,000.

That has allowed the 24-year-old to buy a $53,000 Ford F-250 pickup truck, invest in mutual funds and dabble in his hobbies, such as making jet engines, including one he attached to a golf cart.

“Not everybody needs a four-year college degree,” said Kathryn Vaughan, his mother, a retired biology lecturer who spent part of her career at Texas A&M University.

This corrupt company will either have to pay more for legal
Americans, no matter the race or go belly up.

Welding is not brutish labor. I was a welder and made great money doing it back in the late 70’s.

"...home to a half-dozen major trailer manufacturers — all competitors. And they all employ undocumented workers."

If you let on competitor break the law, they all have to follow or they are out of business.

Laws need to be enforced.

“Comprehensive immigration reform is, so far, dead in the water in the gridlocked Congress. And back at Tigertown, some trailer manufacturers say that if they can’t find enough welders, they would consider moving their entire operations to Mexico.”

Good, let them move to Mexico and then pay a huge duty to get their products back into this country. If the truth were known, these red neck a$$holes who own and run these trailer manufacturing businesses have developed a collective business model that has at it’s roots using illegal immigrant labor, because it’s cheap. They have $hit working conditions and pay less than they would have to pay for American labor. They consider illegal alien labor “expendible.” Who cares if the work environment equates to slave labor, and who gives a $hit if someone gets injured? But hey, you can buy a trailer cheap, so it’s o.k., right?

I was talking to a guy that I go to church with that hires and fires on a job that makes oil tanks. He says the average employee he gets today can't read a tape measure. Some of the welders have to tell their helpers to cut a piece 16 inches and 7 marks instead of 16 7/16. Some HS grads can't read cursive writing. None of them have a clue about history.

Hiring an illegal that is willing to work long hours at low pay is just too tempting. People keep thinking that illegals are mowing grass and cleaning bathrooms, but many of them are carpenters, brick layers, electricians, roofers, ect. Jobs that would support a family when I graduated High school 50 years ago are now low paying and no benefits. Florida is about to find out that the illegals in Texas, La, Miss, Ala, are all headed their way to take jobs from the locals. After Hurricane Rita, we couldn't find ANY carpenters and roofers in Texas because the illegals were still working Katrina.

When I graduated HS, I could go to an oil refinery and get a good job doing almost anything. Today, a college grad can hardly add and subtract. Ask a 23 yo to make change for a $20 sometime and you will shake your head when they reach for their cell phone.

OTOH, they know all about Global Warming, 14 genders, anal sex, and communism. When you pay $50k a year for a degree in Gender Studies, you can sit in abasement at moms house, but you can't read a ruler. This is why we are paying $15 hr. for someone with a degree to put pickles on a burger. That's about all they can handle.

Hiring an illegal from Honduras with a 3rd grade education to build a house is a no brainer once you've been in the real world awhile. Schools are turning out Dem voters rather than training a workforce and making good citizens. Nobody is buying the product anymore.

"...if ICE is too successful, "employers are wondering where they're going to find people to man their businesses if American high school graduates aren't going to do it."

For the umpteenth time... Americans would be more than happy to do those dirty jobs, if employers paid American wages.

They hire illegals because illegals can and will work for less pay than what Americans can and will work for!

This artificially distorts the market and creates unfair competition for those businesses that play by the rules.

My own family business has suffered a 50% reduction in income, due to the massive influx of illegals into our industry over the last fifteen years or so.

Hiebert says they hire whoever walks in the door, and they pay decent wages ...

I suddenly have the urge to inspect the welds on the trailer I just bought on Monday.
