Could Trump Win 20 Percent of the African-American Vote in 2020?
Townhall.com ^ | October 18, 2018 | Victor Davis Hanson

The provocative Donald Trump certainly seems to be disliked by a majority of African-American professional athletes, cable news hosts, academics and the Black Congressional caucus. Yet there are subtle but increasing indications that his approval among other African-Americans may be reaching historic highs for a modern Republican president.

Some polls have indicated that Trump's approval rating among black voters is close to 20 percent. That is far higher than the 8 percent of the African-American vote that Trump received on Election Day 2016.

A recent, admittedly controversial Rasmussen Reports poll showed African-American approval of Trump at 36 percent.

Even 20 percent African-American support for Trump would all but dismantle Democratic Party presidential hopes for 2020. Hillary Clinton lost the 2016 election with 88 percent of the black vote. That was about a six-point falloff from Barack Obama's share of the black vote in 2012.

But far more importantly, an estimated 2 million of the African-American voters who cast ballots for Obama in 2012 simply did not show up at the polls in 2016 to vote for the off-putting Clinton.

Even a small drop in African-American turnout or anything less than the usual 85 percent to 90 percent supermajority for a Democratic presidential candidate on Election Day can prove fatal. Why?

Republican presidential candidates now routinely win 55 percent to 60 percent of the so-called white vote, and about 70 percent of voters are white. That lopsided margin may widen further, given that progressive Democrats are not making any effort to recapture turned-off white working-class voters.

The polls are not truthful, because people questioned often think it is fake news anyway.

20% is low. Trump is climbing and might go over 30%. He is actually doing something for the Democratic ghettoes.

No, by then he will win 35%. The author should do some research.

If Rasmussen is even close to being right and I believe they are, President Trump May well exceed 20% of the Black vote. I also think the Democrats are going to continue to bleed White working class voters - particularly in the upper Midwest. That puts Wisconsin, Michigan, Pennsylvania and Minnesota in play from now on. If Democrats lose those states in any national election, it’s impossible for them to win.

If President Trump and Republican approval are at all time highs, guess what statistics *won’t* be published for a long time?

How many percent of the black vote means it’s over for the Democrats?

African-Americans are beginning to experience in large numbers the empowerment of productive private employment and entrepreneurship. They are looking around and resenting that the liberals have situated their murderous, culture destroying abortion clinics in their neighborhoods and have herded their kids into cesspool public schools. The Democrats are realizing that they are coming to some very disconcerting political realizations

He will need close to 40% of the men to do this. Black women are beyond reaching. A few notable exceptions but 99% Completely hopeless.

20% would create an electoral landslide. Seriously.

The Demon Rats would be a pulp on Trump’s shoes....not that they aren’t on the way to that fate right now.

Democrats are not making any effort to recapture turned-off white working-class voters.

And will not in the future. Whites are evil. Men are Evil. Christians are evil. Civility is evil............................

I can see even a higher percentage. A nationwide ecosystem of accelerators, investment funds and conferences is strengthening black business ownership and they are increasing in number.

According to the U.S. Black Chamber of Commerce, four months in and 2018 is already shaping up to be a banner year for African-American entrepreneurship. Currently there are nearly 2.6 million African-American-owned businesses in the U.S., and now there are countless platforms, programs, initiatives and conferences in place to support such exponential growth.

This is what I think you will see at the polls. Success breads success and it is a firm bet it will continue. The snowball is rolling.

I’ve only been polled once and I gave the exact opposite answers to what I would really do.

This.

I remember when I used to post on Seattlebubble.com regarding the looming housing meltdown back in 2006. I said house prices could fall as much as 20% and I was vilified for it. Heck, it even sounded like crazy talk to me. But I stood by it anyway.

And prices did fall 20% and continued falling to as much as 50%, depending on the neighborhood.

I think that, like then, we are seeing a paradigm shift. I think a LOT of blacks are coming around to what the D party has done and that it has been using them as useful idiots. Except they are wising up.

He WILL win at least 20%.

My friend Mike Sheppard on Twitter has tracked this info for a year. Trump late 2017 jumped to a 16% approval with blacks, hovered there, then began to move up. On the LOWEST polls he’s in the high teens. In the Survey Monkey polls he’s at 35% approval. By election day 2020, he’s going to be high 40s.

NOW, ONE CAUTION. “Approval” does not equal votes. I think this is a three step process.

1. In 2016, 3% of blacks stayed home rather than vote for Cankles. I think that 3% already moved to Trump along with about 7%-15% more.

2. In 2020, that 3-7% will join Trump’s original 7% to give him around 15-17% of the black vote . . . BUT . . . another 3-10% will not vote D. They will stay home. They and many more will vote R in 2024.

3. Meanwhile, the first tier of “movers,” say about 25-30% will begin voting for, and supporting, Republican candidates in general-—not just Trump. And ANOTHER 10-20% will just stay home.

I think we are witnessing a fantastic and amazing shift that honestly I never thought I’d see. Diamond&Silk were the first, but then Candace Owens and Kanye are absolutely KEY in this. They cross cultural lines that people like John James or Condoleeza Rice never could.
