There once was a saying that there were more Poles in Chicago than in Warsaw.
Now there are more Somalis in Minneapolis than in Mogadishu.
That didn’t help, but they understood after the bloody nose in Poland that they were outclassed. The Germans took heavy losses reaching their objectives, but they reached them - and the Western Allies simply couldn’t take the losses.
After the losses in WWI (the “war to end all wars”), I don’t even blame Western Europeans for sitting out WWII. In a war between Hitler & Stalin, what would “victory” look like? Once the Western democracies (US, Britain, France) left the rest of Europe no other choices earlier in the 1930s, there was nothing for them to do but “duck and cover”. Most faced communist revolutions, and military/fascist reactions to them; those in which the communists were suppressed ended up with the Axis, and those where leftists ruled (US, Britain, France) ended up allied with Stalin. It really was as simple as that, and today those that lived under the yoke of communism are more “Christian” than the progressive West.
I’ve been pondering your comment for a few days.
IMO, Willmar isn’t as far gone as you think. I used to roll my eyes at the various groups working to “keep downtown vibrant” or making Robbins Island a destination playground. I am now grateful for their efforts because they are working to keep Willmar from turning into a ——hole.
Still-there are issues that aren’t being addressed at all.
