If I recall correctly, the 9/11 pilots and highjackers were all but one, Saudi.

Hold friends close, but hold enemies closer. They need watching. I hope any weapons, including jets, we sold them have secret off switches that can be activated , if needed.

Parts of the current kerfuffle seem like an echo of the last days of the Shah. Jimmy Carter decided that the Shah did not value human rights and so the US took away our support for him. Much sadness for the world has followed that mistake.
Saudi Arabia is not a good place. And I would support slowly extricating the US from the affairs of the Middle East. But any dramatic rejection of the current Saudi leadership, by President Trump, is not likely to bring anything but more suffering.

The Russians and Chinese will fill the vacuum left by the US departure. And add the radical Islamists.
The Kingdom has the largest proven reserves in exportable oil in the world. Its impact on the global economy cannot be underestimated. We would be fools to sever our relationship over the death of a Saudi passport holder.

I think the punishment should be that we release some or all of the secret information we know about the Saudis such as what role they may have played in financing the terrorists of 9/11 and what all happened at the Saudi embassy in Los Angeles and the rushing of Saudi citizens out of the US after 9/11.
Inquiring minds want to know.

Most of Buchanan’s analogies are not apt. In this case the US is not just weighing morality against national interest, but it’s also making a choice between bad and worse. That is, between a murderous, retrograde tyrannical regime and a murderous, retrograde, tyrannical, expansionist rival. Buchanan seems to favor the latter. Israel probably has something to do with it.

Sure, let’s destabilize another Middle East country. That’s worked so well for us in the past.

FDR knew about SOBs.. he was one himself. a Democrat tyrant.
He and gutless allies baited this nation into a world war to cover-up for the dismal policies of their own parties and regimes.

Both are saying that what the Turks claim they can prove -- Khashoggi was tortured and murdered in the consulate, cut up, and his body parts flown to Saudi Arabia -- is a lie. Put up or shut up. When has Erdogan been truthful with us?
