The battle over the confirmation of Associate Justice Brett Kavanaugh to the U.S. Supreme Court has helped Republicans in the short term more than Democrats. Since the stunning thumbs down moment by the late Senator John McCain, R-Ariz., Republican enthusiasm has ebbed-and-flowed, while Democrats consistently reported higher levels of interest.
For Republicans, the challenge this election cycle was two-fold: combating voter complacency and maintaining the more moderate wing of their coalition, specifically women, and even more specifically, Republican women.
There was no downside for the GOP. They needed to increase enthusiasm, something the controversy over the confirmation of Justice Kavanaugh clearly had the potential to do. There was almost no upside for the Democrats. In the final weeks, they needed to not derail their own enthusiasm, nothing to increase Republican enthusiasm and nothing to turn off Republican women they have targeted for at least the better half of two years.
What the media wont tell you, is that the Democrat Party has made a costly mistake. The only questions remaining now are also largely two-fold: how far will it reach, and will it last until Election Day?
For incumbent Senator Heidi Hietkamp, D-N.D, the answer the first question is not good news. Considering the partisan lean of The Peace Garden State, wed expect it to be among the first of the red states represented by vulnerable Democratic incumbents to flip.

Stay the course and keep you chin up! And VOTE on November 6!
Hope she loses bigly.
I believe Heidi Hietkamp was toast long before the Justice Kavanaugh battle began.
toast....now burnt toast.
The Senate is in the bag. We need to focus on the House.
Nothing will be in the bag until Nov 6th.
Just to clarify : the sentence, properly, should be “how badly....”
^^^^This x 1 million!
I wish this were emphasized more, but traditionally the party out of power will gain seats in the mid-terms.
It would be a surprise if this DIDN'T happen.
If the democrats do not take the House, it would be an anomaly.
I'm frankly surprised that there is not much discussion in the media about this.
If the republicans hold the House, it would be absolutely HUGE in historical context.
An *upset* if you want to call it that.
Almost as big as Trump winning in 2016.
The House is already toast. This is not a big deal as Ryan was 100% ineffective - could not even pass a decent budget, or repeal obamacare, or do anything useful except pass a corporate tax cut.
The Kavanaugh fight saved the Senate which is a much more critical objective as it will permit Trump to govern effectively - appoint judges, and other senior officials who can implement conservative policy. Plus they can blame Pelosi and the House for blocking laws.
Heidi is dead meat. However I must respect her for being loyal to her defunct ideology of which she is one. She is going down with the ship as a loyal officer of the ship. She will not be missed.
If she had of voted for Kavenaugh she would have still lost. She remained loyal to her ideology and I respect this. As mentioned above, she is dead meat in the electoral process.
The last time there was a Republican president in his 1st term and 1st mid term elections, Bush and the Rs not only held but picked up seats in the house.
I see no reason for the Ds to take the house. Economy doing great, no wars. Just a lot of irrational hate on the left.
And a lot of lying phony polls by the satanic media.
The conservatives are jacked up to vote after the Kavannah debacle. I just voted early here in Idaho cause Ill be elk hunting the first part of November. I didnt just vote for senate candidates. I filled out the whole ballot. If the Rs are out voting for senator, I figure they will vote for representatives. IMHO
The House isn’t toast. Time will tell.
Nonsense troll, and I have never said this before.
Three things are driving this prediction of a house turnover: a wave of Republican incumbents retiring, a big redistricting loss in Pennsylvania, and some well heeled donors on the republican side (both from the establishment chamber of commerce side as well as the libertarian side) sitting on their hands this go round. None of this is a reflection of a groundswell of support for socialism, but the left is happy to claim that and the establishment is happy to wait for the chance to say "i told ya so".
The Republicans will flip some House seats; putting the House out of reach for the dems. I think there is a chance of a small net gain for the Republicans in the House. Voter fraud is the primary uncertainty in this election. The dems are at the win at all costs point.
Thats probably true, and I am from North Dakota. My son will train in Reapers, when he gets out of OTS. No need for Extenders or Stratotankers. 😁👍
As a number of FReepers noted over the summer months, the Demagogic Party riots and fiascos related to the Kavanaugh hearings were made ever-less-effective by the classic rope-a-dope carried out by all the Pubbies (and in that category, Jeff Flake doesn't belong).
