Babysitting While Black: Georgia Man Was Stalked by Woman as He Cared for 2 White Children
New York Times ^ | October 9, 2018 | Melissa Gomez

Corey Lewis first noticed the woman as he crossed the Walmart parking lot in Marietta, Ga., on Sunday afternoon. She was sitting in a Kia sedan, he said, as he led the two children he was babysitting back to his car.

By the time he had them buckled up and ready to go, he had his phone out and was live-streaming on Facebook as he narrated a story about how the strange woman had begun stalking them after he refused to let her talk to the children, Mr. Lewis, 27, said in an interview.

She followed him out of the parking lot, to the gas station across the street, and to his home, where Mr. Lewis, who is black, was questioned by a Cobb County police officer about why he had with him two young children, who are white.

“I didn’t know what was going on, what she wanted to do,” Mr. Lewis said on Tuesday, believing that the woman had called the police because he was a black man walking around with two white children. “I felt like my character was being criminalized.”

Sgt. Wayne Delk confirmed the incident, saying that an officer had responded to a call from a woman on Sunday afternoon. The police did not say whether they knew her identity.

In a series of live videos on Facebook, Mr. Lewis recorded the incident, which began in a Walmart parking lot and ended as the latest instance of a black person being reported to the police while doing a lawful activity, like golfing, napping, shopping or even canvassing.

The New York Times wants to make a national case out of some children being babysat in Georgia. It turns out that in this case the suspicions of the white woman who reported the black male babysitter were unfounded, but it *is* unusual for white kids to be babysat by a black guy. So this case is as much about profiling men as it is blacks. (I have often seen them babysat by black women when I lived in NYC.) If there is a 1/1000 chance that the children are being kidnapped, what should she do? It's too bad he was inconvenienced, but I hope they don't try to destroy the woman who reported him to the police.

Old saying: If you see something, say something.
New saying: If you see something, better keep quiet unless you want to be denounced as a monster.

Yeah, she’s a retard that ought to mind her own business.

So let’s not seriously turn this into a 50 post thread about how this was ok (because reasons), when people here would fly off the handle if someone black had falsely accused people of calling the cops over this.

True - but when I was around 15 I used to baby sit a smaller boy in our neighborhood.

He was a pistol and had run off all the girl baby sitters from the area.

We came to an “understanding” real quick and he didn’t give me any trouble.

One time my wife thought it would be fun to hand out candy canes in Southcenter Mall. So she gave me a bunch and she had a bunch and we went off in opposite directions. I tried to give little kids candy canes but I was getting odd looks from the moms and the kids. I gave out two and quit.

It suddenly hit me: A 44 year old man in a black leather jacket - alone - pulling candy canes out of his pocket and offering them to children. That’s not really a good idea.

File it under,”what were we thinking?!”

If the kids are conscious and not crying, it’s probably ok.

Unfortunate but true. Men looking after children is still seen as unusual in America. This young man must be naive to be surprised by her actions. She’s a busybody, but she is not alone. Most families would never even consider hiring a make babysitter, because they’re not accustomed to the very notion.

The racial difference only accentuates the notion that these cannot be the children of that man, so who is he? This perspective also accounts for less men choosing to go into teaching young children.

Fake News.

While the facts may or may not be accurate here - the reason this is Fake News is due to the agenda.

Lot of kidnapped kids and child trafficking.

Props to a concerned adult who asked a reasonable question.

Leftists are all for baby raping. Hence the article.

There is a certain type of person who sees a man with children and immediately thinks: kidnapper! pedophile! It’s ridiculous. I had a neighbor call the police on a man who turned out to be the father.

This type of thing happened in the DC metro area to a white man who married a black woman and was taking his OWN blackish child to Walmart. Police were called.

“If there is a 1/1000 chance that the children are being kidnapped, what should she do?”

There is probably a 1/1000 chance that any children you see might be getting kidnapped, yet we don’t run around appointing ourselves as investigators and try to interrogate every child we see. Unless there is something more, like the children are obviously in distress or trying to get away, there really isn’t any justifiable reason to try and do anything.

Male babysitters may be rare, but dads out with his children not so much. Two of my children are black. I get no grief, but if my son were to marry a white widow or adopt white children, I would not want him to get grief either.

Her name needs to be released.

There are a couple other things to throw in the mix right now; there is a huge campaign going on to alert people to watch for human trafficking- of children and adults. People are being told to take a second look at or report suspicions of nannies that might be trafficked for work, as well as children that might be part of a child trafficking scheme. People are told to be vigilant of seeing things that might have not given them pause before when it comes to people/possibly not parents with children, people engaged in other tasks that might be prone to trafficking of humans- gardening, cleaning, other household help.

This campaign is all over social media the last month or so for sure. The woman may have observed that he was likely not a parent (maybe the way he interacted more than race) and who knows what else she may have observed about the situation that alarmed her. I think she did the right thing, he was merely inconvenienced- if he had turned out to be a child trafficker she may well have saved lives.

Often minorities are suspected of things, does not have to be their race that causes that suspicion. I live on the border and am frequently stopped by Border Patrol in traffic stops (not talking about check points) to check me out. One day a Hispanic friend was complaining to me that BP racially profiles. I asked her why she would think that because more than a few BP are Hispanic. She told me they stop her a lot, and she thought it was only because she is Hispanic. I had to tell her they stop me all the time as well. I am blonde, obviously Caucasian. She was surprised to hear I get stopped too. We are stopped frequently because we travel less traveled roads near the border and this is a known smuggler route. She had never considered that, she jumped to the conclusion it was based on her appearance alone.
