Major Hurricane Michael is churning toward the northeastern Gulf of Mexico coast. Florida Governor Rick Scott declared a state of emergency Monday for 35 counties with mandatory coastal evacuations in the FL Panhandle. 1,250 National Guard troops are aiding the process and more than 4,000 more placed on standby.
FEMA is already on the ground in Florida; other federal agencies are also preparing to assist people in the storm's path.
Alabama Gov. Kay Ivey on Monday declared a state of emergency for the entire state. Georgia Governor Nathan Deal issued a state of emergency for 92 counties ahead of Hurricane Michael landfall.
Meanwhile, Tallahassee city government (Andrew Gillum, Mayor & D'Rat FL Gubernatorial candidate) offices are "closed until further notice." Tallahassee International Airport is suspending commercial flight activity as 12:01 a.m. ET on Wednesday but expects to resume activity on Thursday.
The U.S. military moved its aircraft from the Panhandle on Monday. Roughly 50 F-22 stealth fighter jets valued around $150 million each have been relocated from the Tyndall Air Force Base, while the U.S. Navy said it is moving all its training aircraft from Pensacola.
Energy Production The Bureau of Safety and Environmental Enforcement (BSEE) on Tuesday estimated that around 726 MMcf/d (28.4%) of natural gas production and 670,831 b/d (39.5%) of oil production in the GOM had been shut in ahead of the storm.
As of midday Tuesday, 75 platforms and three rigs had been evacuated, while eight dynamically positioned rigs had been moved out of the storms path as a precaution, according to BSEE.

Hurricane Michael | Oct. 14, 2018 | Afternoon Update
(This alert banner is where you will get up-to-date information on the storm. Please check back often for new updates.)
Gulf Power announces that by midnight, Oct. 24, fourteen days after landfall of Hurricane Michael, 95 percent of all Gulf Power customers who can accept electric service should be restored.
NEW Downtown Panama City, Callaway, Parker, Lynn Haven, Youngstown and surrounding areas are estimated to be restored by midnight, Oct. 24.
I don’t know who serves the Mexico Beach and St. Joe area.
It was FPL (Florida Power and Light) when I lived there
but that was 30+ years ago.
I think this may be it, Gulf Coast Electric. It’s a co-op.
Approximately 75 Gulf Coast Electric Cooperative employees serve more than 20,000 meters and 2,500 miles of line in Bay, Calhoun, Gulf, Jackson, Walton and Washington counties and in the municipalities of Wewahitchka, Ebro, Lynn Haven, White City, Fountain and Southport. Being member-owned allows members to have a definite influence on the progressiveness of the cooperative.
Found it. Duke Energy.

Gulf Power is a subsidiary of the Southern Company.

Duke Energy looks better than Gulf Coast Electric Co-op. I couldn’t pull up a map on the co-op website. Looks rather primitive.
Only 75 employees. I’m served by a co-op where I live in North Louisiana. Its a distribution company only, mostly in rural areas. They own and maintain the power lines, meters, transformers, etc., and buy their power wholesale from Big Power, and then resell it.
When an event like this happens, they “borrow” equipment and personnel from all over to rebuild. In recent years, utility companies have become very sophisticated in sharing emergency services.
One of my Morning Coffee buddies is a retired manager of a power line contractor, and he still keeps up with the industry.
Power back on via Duke energy last night about 8pm up in the Greensboro NC area.
They are still predicting a few more days for some locations up this way.
Good info, thanks.
Really amazing the rings found their owner so quickly in all of the disaster mess. Great ending to the story!
Hooray that you are now back to enjoying creature comforts!
