RIO DE JANEIRO (AFP) -
Jair Bolsonaro topped the poll in the first round of Brazil's presidential elections, having seduced tens of millions of voters with simple -- though radical -- solutions to eradicating violence in one of the world's deadliest countries.
For many, Bolsonaro has the answer to the question that has preoccupied them for years -- how to lower the crime rate in a country with more than seven murders an hour?
"Give guns to good people," the former paratrooper insisted during campaign meetings.

“If one of us, a civilian or a soldier, is attacked... and if he fires 20 times at the assailant, he should be decorated and not have to go to court,” the far-right candidate told a campaign meeting in the northern Rio neighborhood of Madureira in August.
(oops meant to have that in there, too)
In the 1700s, some of the best minds in history debated natural law for decades. One of their conclusions was that we have a natural right to self-defense. This recognition led to enshrining that right in our Second Amendment a few years later. I’m glad another country is starting to see the light.
I've been to Brazil. There are places where cops will not go. Some are corrupt, others scared. But those slums are unpoliced and run by the bad guys. The result isn't a bunch of protection shakedowns and no crime as long as you pay, it's murders in absurd levels, levels that make Chicago look like nothing. Of course people are hoping somebody will take it seriously and do something, anything.
Brazil could stand as a beacon of reason for the world if it were to undertake a program of free sterilization for its poor.
PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE DO THIS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
An armed society is a polite society!!
Friends of mine from Brazil have shown me video of their towns when the police go on strike.
The violence and looting is out of control. Give these thugs something to consider when pondering an attack on someone’s shop or well being.
There will be a spate of killings which will then rapidly tail off as the worst players are killed or frightened out of the picture.
“the far-right candidate told a campaign meeting”
*cough*
My handy-dandy Newspeak media translation guide for political ideology labels:
Media labels vs. Reality:
Socialist = Stalinist
Liberal = Marxist
Moderate = Socialist
Conservative = Liberal
Far-Right = Moderate
Ultraright/Racist/Bigot = Conservative Mainstream
So Bolsonaro is a Moderate.
Saw a funny video about violence in Brazil. A guy leaves his car running on the street and runs into a grocery store to rob it. While he’s in the store, somebody steals his car. When he comes out with his bag full of money looking around for his car, he gets held up by 2 dudes and they take his cash. Probably a spoof but really funny.
Nothing more peaceful than a dead troublemaker
Shades of Archie Bunker’s solution to stop Airplane hijacking. Love it !
Media labels vs. Reality:

Worth keeping and repeating.
THE PURGE....BRAZIL
Shootings may spike in the beginning but will taper off nicely.
He is good on some issues including this and obviously better than the communist — but I am tired of media lumping every anti-leftist with Trump. Each country has their own landscape and baggage to deal with...The ‘far right’ is not always right nor Trumpian for that matter.
Same in South Africa for that matter.
The Right To Bear Arms
There already ARE restrictions in place.
Arms includes bazookas, mortars, nukes...
Hence the ARMS race.
That’s enough restriction for me.
Guns should not be restricted.
I wonder if ANY founding father had an inkling of what kind of weapons were to come?
Do we?
Bazookas!
I love that Word.
