The rise and spectacular fall of China’s Interpol chief Meng Hongwei

At the crest of his political career Meng Hongwei, the first-ever Chinese president of Interpol, was proudly hailed by state media as a testimony to the international community’s “full recognition” of China’s law enforcement capacity and status as a country based on the rule of law.

Less than a year after he took the helm of the global policing body, Meng hosted its general assembly in Beijing – only the second time in the country’s history.

At the opening ceremony, he was given the rare privilege of sitting next to the country’s most powerful man, President Xi Jinping, who – in a show of support for both Meng and Interpol – gave a keynote speech pledging to increase China’s support for the agency and help raise its profile.

Another year on, Meng, also a vice-minister of public security in China, was again thrust into the global limelight, although for a very different reason – the 64-year-old was reported missing by his wife in France after he travelled back to China and, two days later, it was announced he was under investigation by China’s anti-corruption body.

Double Agent?

One of our Spy-Rings was rolled up by China because the She-Devil had lax or non-existent security practices.

My theory about the whole Unsecured Server business is that access was allowed after coughing up the dough.

No real e-prints would be evident tying any thing specific which was not the result of the network being “hacked.”

“I didn’t know, your honor, that China, Russia, England, Saudi Arabia, Israel and others had dastardly hacked into my network. In fact, the whole world was reading about my yoga classes”.

From your link:

First in 2015 and then again in June 2017, the party declared that all Chinese companies must collaborate in gathering intelligence.

“All organizations and citizens,” reads Article 7 of China’s National Intelligence Law, “must support, assist with, and collaborate in national intelligence work, and guard the national intelligence work secrets they are privy to.”

All Chinese companies, whether they are private or owned by the state, are now part and parcel of the party’s massive overseas espionage campaign.

Huawei is a key part of this aggressive effort to spy on the rest of the world. The company’s smartphones, according to FBI Director Christopher Wray, can be used to “maliciously modify or steal information,” as well as “conduct undetected espionage.” Earlier this year the Pentagon banned the devices from all US military bases worldwide.
The two Chinese characters that make up Huawei’s name literally mean, “To Serve China.” That’s clear enough, isn’t it?
