Reelection was supposed to be a cakewalk for veteran Democratic Senator Bob Menendez. But a new poll by Stockton University finds that ethics problems and a relentless campaign of ads highlighting them by his Republican challenger has left Menendez in a fight for his political life.
The poll finds Menendez leading Republican challenger Robert Hugin by 2 points45 percent to 43 percentwhich is well within the polls margin of error.
New Jersey is a blue state, where Democratic voters easily outnumber those registered Republican. And Democrats are looking to New Jersey as a key player in a blue wave that could sweep them to power in the House of Representatives and the Senate.
But Menendez is hampered after his corruption trial ended in a mistrial and the Senate Ethics Committee admonished him.
Hugin has filled the airwaves with television commercials highlighting Menendezs ethics woes. The Democrat, has tried to attack Hugins backgrounds as a pharmaceutical executive, but those efforts arent gaining the same traction with voters as the Republicans attacks.
Menendezs campaign claimed the poll results were not accurate, according to reports by the The Record.

I’ll be voting for Hugin. It’s rare for my vote in NJ to have even the slightest meaning so I’m looking forward to that.
Not after those shenanigans the Dems pulled with Justice Kavanaugh’s nomination. THAT was a loser from the start. These people are stupid.
I thought NJ had some bright people, let’s hope they don’t vote for an obviously corrupt Menendez.
AMEN!
NO, We Can't Mention that in a Close Race!
Kavanaugh an alleged rapist. Menendez a proven pedophile.
One trend at work in the Garden State is strong opposition to Republican President Donald Trump, who is graded as doing a poor or fair job by 64 percent, said John Froonjian, senior research associate at the Hughes Center.

If you like this economy, you can keep this economy. VOTE R
Trump is not viewed favorably in NJ in the same poll.
Are there a lot of Muslims in NJ?
We know about Muslims in Jersey City 1993, 2001
President Trump needs to schedule several rallies in Joisy...
Fortunately Hugin has his own money to spend. Hugin might suffer with close association with Trump in NJ.
Ohio, Michigan , PA look like possible missed opportunities with 5 weeks left based on polls.
This is not fair. The public has no right to discover that Menendez is a crook, has been a crook all his life, and intends to be a crook when reelected. Republicans should not be allowed to run a relentless campaign to inform voters. If this practice were allowed to continue and to spread to other states, Democrats would lose their lifetime elected offices and where would we get our free stuff? /sarc
Which is media talk for: “we don’t know”
5 weeks is a long time, we can only hope for the best!
