Unless a soldier has an ammo truck following him, this is stupid. Ammo takes up space and is heavy. Running out of ammo in a few seconds doesn't seem practical.

True enough. However, ammo weighs a heck of a lot less if you don't have to also cart along propellant, primer and brass.

Well, you will have to lug along propellant and primer and cases with this thing too.

The question here is whether the weight is greater or less than the equivalent number of rounds of conventional ammunition.

Whats been shown seems to be bulkier, at least, than conventional brass-cased ammo. I don’t know if the system as a whole is bulkier than the current systems, counting magazines.
