Puerto Rico Allows Abortions Up to Birth, Pro-Life People March Today to Stand Against It

Prayers and support are needed for pro-lifers in Puerto Rico who are taking to the streets today to demand common sense, compassionate limits on abortion to protect unborn children and their mothers. The Luchemos por las Dos Vidas (“Lets Fight for Both Lives”) March is being organized today by the pro-life group Mujeres 950 and others.  National pro-life groups have endorsed the March and are supporting efforts to pass pro-life legislation in Puerto Rico. Abortion is currently legal in the U.S. territory up until the moment of birth – a radical status quo created by Roe v. Wade. Many Americans are unaware that abortion is virtually unrestricted on the Island.

In a letter sent today to pro-life leader Daisy Quiles-Pardo, pro-life leaders based in Washington, D.C. endorsed Puerto Rico’s Senate Bill 950, “The Law for the Protection of Women and the Preservation of Life.” The bill would “go far in limiting abortion in Puerto Rico, which already claims an estimated 20,000 lives every year in the Island, by prohibiting this loathsome practice after twenty weeks and implementing other common-sense reforms.” “It is truly outrageous,” the letter continues, “that in the Island still today abortion is allowed until the moment of birth, that minors do not need the consent of their parents to terminate their pregnancy and that abortion can be practiced on demand without requiring a waiting period or an ultrasound or asking the fetal age.”

Signers on the letter include SBA List President Marjorie Dannenfelser, Rev. Sam Rodriguez of the National Hispanic Christian Leadership Conference, Jeanne Mancini of the March for Life, Penny Nance of Concerned Women for America LAC, Kristan Hawkins of Students for Life of America, Catherine Glenn Foster of Americans United for Life, and Frank Cannon from American Principles Project.  Alfonso Aguilar of the Latino Partnership for Conservative Principles also signed the letter and joined Ginna Pennance, communications director of the Peurto Rican pro-life group “Fieles A La Verdad, on EWTN Pro-life Weekly last night to explain the situation on the Island to viewers.

Please keep Puerto Rico and the efforts of the pro-life community there in your prayers!

I never knew this. I figured that it was a primarily Catholic island they would have some anti-abortion laws.

BTW, I don't think the picture in the article was taken in PR. They just look too cold! lol.

It actually taken at the March for Life in DC..I guess.

I wish I knew. Social programs were always more appealing. If it’s free, it’s for me. No matter who dies.

I'm old enough to remember some of abortion's political history.

Soon after the 1973 Roe v. Wade decision one of the most progressive-liberal Senate Democrats, Harold Hughes, joined one of the most progressive-liberal Republicans, Mark Hatfield, in co-sponsoring a Human Life Amendment (H.L.A.). Both were opponents of the Vietnam War. Both opposed abortion because of, not despite, their other "Thou Shalt Not Kill" values.

Their "pro-peace, pro-life" stance was supported by darlings of the Left like Dick Gregory, Jesse Jackson and much of the Civil Rights movement. Michael Harrington, star socialist pundit, once called pro-life one of the only true grassroots movements to emerge from the ‘70s.

Internationally, the nations and peoples once in danger of being genocided (the Jews, the Irish, even the Puerto Ricans) were very understandably against opening up a Free Fire Zone on their next generations.

Meanwhile, the founding resolutions and categorical demands of the National Organization for Women (N.O.W.) didn't even mention abortion. It was not considered a feminist issue!

Why are the main abortion enthusiasts now aborters-of-color, screaming liberal white women dressed as their own genitals, and men with no real interest in those women OR their 'lady parts'?

It would be an interesting history. Or perhaps a study in abnormal psychology, a psychology of confusion, delusion, self-defeat and self-mutilation, as "progressive" as a Stage Four carcinoma and now considered all too normal.

Roe v. Wade and its companion Doe case allow for no limitations. The Hyde Amendment prohibits Federal funding for abortion.
