Maryland State Lawmakers Seek Local Kavanaugh Investigation

In Maryland, 11 state lawmakers have asked Montgomery County law enforcement officials to investigate the 36-year-old sexual assault allegations against Judge Brett Kavanaugh that have gripped the nation.

Eleven state delegates from Montgomery County are calling on local police and prosecutors to investigate allegations that U.S. Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh committed one or more sexual assaults while a high school student at Georgetown Prep in the 1980s.

In a letter addressed Montgomery County Police Chief Tom Manger, State's Attorney John McCarthy and lawyers Debra Katz and Michael Avenatti, who represent women accusing Kavanaugh of crimes, the lawmakers asked local authorities not to wait for an alleged victim to make a complaint to them before starting an investigation.

On Friday, senators agreed to delay a vote on his nomination for up to a week while the FBI investigates.

And in a letter dated Friday, Montgomery County Chief of Police J. Thomas Manger and Montgomery County State's Attorney John J. McCarthy responded to the state legislators' request that they investigate Ford's claim, noting that the victim would have to file a complaint in order to trigger an investigation.

"To date, there have been no criminal reports filed with the Montgomery County Department of Police that would lead to the initiation of any criminal investigation related to Judge Kavanaugh," they wrote.

But even if a complaint was filed, any prosecution would likely be barred by the statute of limitations under the law in the early 1980s. The letter explained: "The law at the time the offense occurred is the law that must be applied to any charges that might be brought. For example, in 1982, assault and attempted rape were both misdemeanors and subject to a one-year statute of limitations."

The law changed in 1996 to remove a statute of limitations on prosecuting attempted rape.

Law enforcement officials, however, say any victims could still come forward. Montgomery County officials "stand ready to investigate any sexual assault allegation from any victim where the incident occurred in our jurisdiction."

Montgomery County Police have repeatedly said they have not received any complaint from any victim associated with Kavanaugh. Maryland State Police told CNN the same thing.

Letter fm Montgomery County Police Chief. No criminal rpts filed vs Judge Kavanaugh that would lead to initiation of criminal investigation. In 1982 assault & attempted rape were misdemeanors subject to one-year statute of limitations. Not that it matters...Judge K is innocent.

To see letter go to...

A week is an eternity. Expect more of this crap to pile up in the days ahead, and by the end of the week for senators from both sides to urge Kavanaugh to pull out. This was the game plan and our side willingly went with it.

It's time to demand full FBI and local investigations on everyone starting with Keith Ellison and Oily Booker. Believe the survivors!

That’s just it. There’s nothing and that’s what they would tell the lunatics if they were ever stupid enough to file a complaint.

..... The victim would have to first file charges against the alleged perp in order for the local Law Enforcement to even consider investigating a 40 year old “he said she said” incident. At which time they would just laugh their heads off.

They are either ignorant of their own laws, or they don't care.

I hope people are listening. This is the same crap the socialists pulled when they took down Venezuela. ONE election was all it took. ONE election in which the population responded to emotion, and not reason. Once they had the power of the government, it was done. ONE election and we will likewise go over into the abyss.

There will not be any maintenance of decency from here on out.

The FBI might as well go and recruit another 2,000 agents to handle the 100 Senators and 435 House members, and the monthly investigations required. We might even have to have a special FBI group to handle NCAA football violations and NFL quarterbacks.
