Rod Rosenstein’s departure was imminent. Now he is likely to survive until after the midterms
Washington Post ^

Rod J. Rosenstein’s departure seemed so certain this week that his boss’s chief of staff told colleagues that he had been tapped by the White House to take over as second-in-command of the Justice Department, while another official would supervise the special counsel probe into Russia’s interference in the 2016 election, people familiar with the matter said.

But by Monday afternoon, the succession plan had been scrapped. Rosenstein, who told the White House he was willing to quit if President Trump wouldn’t disparage him, would remain the deputy attorney general in advance of a high-stakes meeting on Thursday to discuss the future of his employment. The other officials, too, would go back to work, facing the prospect that in just days they could be leading the department through a historic crisis.

Inside the Justice Department on Tuesday, officials still struggled to understand the events that nearly produced a seismic upheaval in their leadership ranks — until it didn’t — and they braced for a potential repeat of that chaos later in the week.

According to the Bush League Republicans in the Senate, the DOJ is supposed to be “independent”.

(slight edit)

“Bottom line: The Washington Post doesn’t have a clue if Rod will stay or go.”

You are correct. It is the media trying to push the narrative once again.

The White House is NOT in control of 5he DOJ currently, Trump himself said that when he said he didn’t have an Attorney General. For the next 40 days...that can continue. He doesn’t, and won’t, fall into an obstruction trap. When the House is maintained and the Senate majority expanded...he can do whatever he wants freely. Sessions...gone. Mueller...gone. And of course, Rosenstein gone. He’s making sure the Party is his and then the control of the government becomes a cakewalk. And he will have six years to implement EVERYTHING.

Too many “conservatives” have no patience at all which is one reason the Left continues to grow and grow. The Left has patience. They can put off until tomorrow something that will have much more impact tomorrow than it will today. Too many conservatives have to see fireworks RIGHT NOW!!! even when the fireworks blow up in their faces.

My manager said of someone that “he went fishing in Paraguay”. He was in jail. Thought that was a good one.

"Never, ever make even inconsequential decisions based on what you read in the New York Times."

It does not matter if it's true or not. The fact that it even could be true (and it likely is) is enough. Rosenstein is second in command at the DOJ and the fact that stories like this happened whether true or not under his watch is proof enough to demand he resign or be fired. Couple the fact that he is now under threat of inquiry and possible impeachment from congress yet he HAS NOT himself resigned makes it clear he does not have the best interest of the President or the American people in mind.

Partner, Rod Rosenstein will not be our Deputy Attorney General after tomorrow since President Trump will tell him to not let the door hit your posterior as you leave the building today.

The next guy to get fired is Jeff Sessions and Robert Mueller & they will be fired right after the elections.

We feel pretty good about this election cycle since the Rats are behaving like a bunch of crazed snakes in the grass.

Sessions and Mueller have been terrible to say the least. As my former boss would say, they are underperforming really bad in their assigned jobs so we need to do something about them right now!!!

"If Rosie is fired Obstruction of Justice becomes a big deal. "

What part of serves at the pleasure of the President is not understood in this thread?

Second, what the hell is to be gained by waiting until after the election to fire someone who is dirty and undermining the President? Does the President get special powers after the midterms?

I can tell you things remain exactly the same as long as we hold the house. So there is nothing to be gained by waiting.

On the other hand if the President does not fire Rosenstein and Sessions or anyone else before the midterms and we LOSE the house his entire Presidency will be in jeopardy. Since you think he's should hold off firing Rosenstein until after the election what do you think it will look like if the President starts firing DOJ officials immediately after losing the house to the DEMS? I can tell you it would look like the end and they would hang obstruction charges all over him.

This wait until after the midterms crap is just plain stupid tactics. There is NOTHING to be gained by keeping these traitors around. The deep state has been playing this "wait until the after the midterms" head fake for over a year.

“His safe bet is to resign.”

But a Trump supporter takes his seat with no senate approval if he resigns. He cannot have that. So he will try to force Trump to fire him so the senate can make Trump appoint another Mueller guy.

Now that the NYT, CNN etc know about the succession problem, pressure on Rosenstein will disappear from the news. And limbo in the DOJ continues ad infinitum.

It is not our understanding of correct protocol. It is what will be done. Impeachment needs nothing in the way of actual crimes to proceed. But for political reasons the reps need a seemingly legal “crime” or precedent to hang it on. The “crime” and precedent is Nixon’s firing of Jaworski. Have patience. Justice rushed is Justice Incomplete. Everybody round here is totally bummed because Trump didn’t put the handcuffs on the immediately known perps the day after the Inauguration. Such have the patience of four year olds.

There is such a thing a being too patient and I'm pretty sure the Republicans are the masters of that trait.

The Republicans are always waiting for this or that. In fact if the Republicans were not waiting they wouldn't be doing anything at all. lol.
