A day after a bruising round of new tariffs came into effect, China ramped up its criticism of the U.S. in a news conference of six top trade and industry officials, portraying itself as a virtuous defender of global trade and the Trump administration as hurting the global economy.
Hardening China's tone, trade negotiator Wang Shouwen said new U.S. tariffs on $200 billion in Chinese goods were so massive that it made trade talks impossible.
"Now that the United States has adopted such huge restrictive measures, like holding a knife to someone's neck, how can negotiations proceed?" said Wang at a news conference. "It would not be negotiations of equality." Wang said American officials had lacked sincerity and trustworthiness in several previous rounds of trade talks.

Which means the next round is going to hurt them hard. Their retaliation covers pretty much everything we now send to China, but Boeing Airplanes and parts. Their economy grinds to a halt if China tariffs and blocks that.
They have nothing else after that to fight back with, other than funding the Democratic Party attacks on Trump, (Which I bet they already are)

I don’t think it’s unreasonable what we’re asking for. Put an immediate end to the joint venture rule for foreign companies to do business in China. Joint ventures are euphemism for we’re going to steal your intellectual property blind. Lower your tariffs for manufacturing goods (e.g. cars), if you really want “fair” trade.
I don’t think we can go as far as to demand an end to subsidies because we use these too.

Doing business in China should be an automatic disqualifier for any outfit that wants to do business with the US defense department.
The tech transfer that China demands as part of the deal is ruinous for us.
Add 200 billion more and upgrade it to a machete.
Once China starts to bleed a little, they will recognize the wisdom of good faith negotiation.

We really need an economic divorce, and technology embargo on that communist dictatorship anyhow - not negotiations.
They are not going to voluntarily change their ways - they never were. They are not our friends, they are the largest human rights abusers on Earth.

We need a tariff on everything from China. Then when we wish we can increase it or decrease it depending on their actions and our desires. Its like training your pet.

2019 is the year that the turd hits the fan over there.
Their positions and statements will likely be increasingly driven by their domestic politics. They are going to have a lot of explaining to do.
They are already scrambling to save face, from getting hit with tariffs that they can not match. On top of the real economic dislocations from losing business due to tariffs, the risk of currency or stock market collapses will increase - both would place a heavy demand on their foreign reserves. Then there is also the risk of their debt bubble bursting.
They could always sell the South China Sea Islands....
The art of the deal - realizing that they need us WAAAAYYY more than we need them...
