Yep. I agree.
One idea just floated on Fox was for McConnell and Trump to confer. McConnell could put the Senate into recess and Trump could recess appoint him until the end of the next session, which would be Jan 2021, iirc.
That would give them time to iron out the character assassinations.
Of course, the risk is that the seat could be open in 2021 and Trump could lose the 2020 race.

On FBN today, Napolitano said Yertle could declare a 10-minute recess of the Senate. During that 10 minutes, Trump could appoint Kavanaugh for a four-year term.
(But it would be better if he were to sit on SCOTUS the normal way.)
