Christine Blasey Ford Reaches Deal to Testify at Kavanaugh Hearing (not really)
New York Times ^ | September 23, 2018 | Sheryl Gay Stolberg

Posted on 09/23/2018 10:59:28 AM PDT by reaganaut1

The woman who has accused Judge Brett M. Kavanaugh of sexually assaulting her when they were teenagers has committed to testify before the Senate Judiciary Committee on Thursday, her lawyers said on Sunday. The lawyers said some details — including whether an outside lawyer will question her — still needed to be resolved, but that those issues would not impede holding a hearing.

The agreement, reached after an hourlong negotiating session Sunday morning between the lawyers and committee aides, is the latest step in a halting process toward a potentially explosive hearing that will pit the woman, Christine Blasey Ford, against Judge Kavanaugh, President Trump’s second nominee to the Supreme Court. On Saturday, the two sides reached a tentative agreement for Dr. Ford to appear on Thursday.

The on-again, off-again talks — with an appointment to the nation’s highest court in the balance — have consumed official Washington, and thrown confirmation proceedings for Judge Kavanaugh, who has vigorously denied Dr. Ford’s allegations, into turmoil. Until last week, Judge Kavanaugh’s confirmation seemed all but assured; that is no longer the case.

A few sticking points between the two sides remain, according to people familiar with the talks. One is who will testify first, Dr. Ford or Judge Kavanaugh. Republicans have rejected the idea that the judge would appear first. But perhaps the biggest sticking point is whether senators on the Judiciary Committee will question Dr. Ford themselves, or use an outside lawyer or a committee aide, most likely a woman.

I agree. There will be more excuses, more demands, anything to drag this out to November 6th.

If Grassley had the votes, they would have voted tomorrow. Even if they didn’t, I think he should have gone ahead with the committee vote instead of agreeing to the circus on Thursday. They are probably not going to get Flake’s vote no matter what. As others have said, it seems like Flake wants this to be a big blank you to Trump and Flake seems to love having this power.

Funny thing is, if she had actually called police in 1982 and complained that a high school kid named Brett jumped on her at a beer party and grabbed second base, and there was evidence to support it, one would expect this would be handled as a non-public juvenile delinquency matter with records sealed so as not to prejudice the future of the kid.

An actual rape would be a different matter of course.

The Republicans are being set up for another “They didn’t count all the votes” charge. The Democrats will accuse them of that even if they wait, so they might as well go ahead and vote.

Yup. The Democrats are Garlanding Kavanaugh.

Whether the Republicans can get his nomination to the floor is their problem.

Turnabout is fair play and revenge is a dish best served cold.

He’s already been smeared as a rapist.

The GOP would be relieved to see him withdraw his nomination.

Seeing that the longer it drags on, the more radioactive it will become.

And they’re afraid to be seen as anti-woman.

I hope she’s a no show. Because if she doesn’t drop her demand to go last, or if she doesn’t show, Grassley will have reasonable grounds to cancel the hearing and call for the vote.

Therefore, to keep the nomination in play, I think she does show. She can say what she wants, Kavanaugh has no proof she’s lying. It’s a “he said, she said” and she’ll be coached to come across like Mother Machree. Then the media rushes to support, and more delay, or the nomination goes down.

I don’t know if Grassley or the milquetoasts in the gope are to blame but this deluded desire to hear prof fraud at all costs has enabled the dems to take over.

Yep, they won't be invited to any of the good DC parties.

Skip the committee vote .

Just do Full senate vote .

Flake has been conspiring since Day One .

He will never ever vote yes.

Stop the media circus now .

Stripping Brent K of his Due Process rights should stop all
talks and withholding of evidence .
Its an outage .

Stop it .

That’s the thing...they (Republicans) don’t even have to launch a defense at this point.

The Democrats ALREADY checkmated themselves. They named witnesses who turned around and blew their story out of the water. They didn’t vet them, and then their own witnesses destroyed them.

It’s all over, the Democrats know it, they only hope to save a little face. They check-mated themselves and there’s no way out of it.

ChuckGrassley
@ChuckGrassley

With all the extensions we give Dr Ford to decide if she still wants to testify to the Senate I feel like I’m playing 2nd trombone in the judiciary orchestra and Schumer is the conductor

I’ve lost count on how many times Grassley and his GOP weak
sisters have rescheduled her testimony.
I’m certain something else will come up before Thursday.
