When was the last time we actually heard anything from Grassley?

Last I heard, he said he felt like he was "playing second trombone in Schumer's orchestra."

Perhaps the biggest sticking point?

No mention of whether or not she’s willing to be sworn in.

Don’t ask, don’t tell?

They have not agreeded to anything except Thursday that is all but they are acting as if they did. Why has Grassley not come back out and say anything since Friday.

Not as weird as your ridiculous post. If it was just a joke, it wasn’t even funny.

The weaklings on this committee should have stuck with their Monday hearing and proceeded to vote if she did not show.

Correct. And if Grassley does not hold the vote after she testifies or not on Thursday he shows what a weak person he is.

Yes, I suspect too that the GOP leadership would be relieved if Kavanaugh would withdraw. They, particularly Grassley are acting like whipped dogs who just want it all to go away. If Grassley agrees to having Kavanaugh go first, that would be a bridge too far and Kavanaugh should refuse to testify. Also, if Ford can have an attorney in the room and Kavanaugh can not, that is an indication that the hearing is already cooked. The endless shifting demands and GOP back downs make it so we cannot be sure of what the exact agreement conditions are, and they may be still changing. Also, what will Grassley do when Ford, her attorneys or the Democrat Senators violate any such rules? He is likely to turn into a doormat at that point. This has been handled by the GOP to do maximum damage to the GOP.

This is - forgive the term - retard-level planning .. on the Democrat side.

Sorry, but if the retard level planning has caused this nomination to be almost derailed, and a huge swing in the public opinion against Judge Kavanaugh, I would hate to see what a competent planning level would have accomplished...

“...So when does the vote take place? Anyone?...”

IMHO, if she doesn’t show up, they should hold the vote that day. No more delays.

Usually the questioning alternates by party. Is Chuck going to say the Dems can’t question? Or will it be Beth then a Dem Wilkerson then a Dem and so on?

No, it’s too late for Kavanaugh to withdraw. There is not enough time to get another nominee confirmed before the election. That would mean that the balance of power on the Supreme Court for a generation would depend on holding the Senate — and if the pubbies find another way, at this late date, to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory, half the base will stay home in disgust. We may lose the Senate anyhow. Kavanaugh going down would guarantee it, and by a wide margin.

He’s already been smeared as a rapist.

The GOP would be relieved to see him withdraw his nomination.

Seeing that the longer it drags on, the more radioactive it will become.

And they’re afraid to be seen as anti-woman.

are you a fool?

I think this is the second time you posted this.

Of course we cannot withdraw.

Leftists would wag every dog we have.

he is not smeared or tainted.

Most women support Kavanaugh.

Stop watching stupid tv.

“The on-again, off-again talks — with an appointment to the nation’s highest court in the balance”

NOTHING in this sordid saga should not produce Kavanaugh’s appointment to be haging in the balance, nothing.

First off, no man Kavanaugh’s age is the person they were at age 17. So, what kind of 17 year old event should come around to bite someone Kavanaugh’s age; particular criminal convictions, maybe.

What we have are by Ford’s own story a teen party that included drinking alcoholic beverages and her and two boys, all teens, in their clothes, in a bed, and - she says - with none of her clothes removed she was groped on the breasts by someone - Kavanaugh, she says. She says the incident immiately after that ended with another boy jumping on those in the bed.

Is that “sexual assault” or drunken teens fooling around; and no more? It sounds very much like the latter.

O.K., let’s give Ford the benefit of the doubt - many doubts - and let it stand that she was groped.

Now then, how could that be material to the adult Mr Kavanaug today? It could - possibly - be material if it were part of a pattern and evidence based history of sexual assault behavior of the adult Mr. Kavanaugh.

But there is no evidence of that.

Kavanaugh the man is now being tried for a nonthing burger of teen coming age poor behavior, that was in fact joined in by Ms Ford, and may not have involved Mr Kavanaugh at all.

No, Ms Ford does not deserve a hearing on the matter in the U.S. Senate. There it cannot be anything more than a she said he said public display meant to convict Mr Kavanaugh as guilty by accusations alone.

Ms Ford could take her case to the courts in Maryland, and if following the end of such a process, the Senate could ask themselves if Mr Kavanaugh should be impeached, for lying at this time. I have no doubt that would not be the result and I am pretty sure so does Ms Ford. I think 100% of what she wanted was to be a political instrument against Mr Kavanaugh, know she would and never could prove anything.

You know what?

It has gotten to the point that, if I was Senator Grassley, I would invoke ANOTHER Nuclear Option.

From now on, I would declare, all SCOTUS Nominees can be approved with a 3-Senator vote.

Eff it. If the Democrats want to play nuclear war, let us give it to them.

Three Senators are all that shall be required to approve a SCOTUS nominee.

F*ck them.
