PayPal bans Alex Jones, saying Infowars 'promoted hate or discriminatory intolerance’

PayPal is terminating its relationship with Alex Jones and his website, Infowars, the online payment service said Friday.

After an extensive review of Infowars and its related sites, PayPal said in a statement, the company “found instances that promoted hate or discriminatory intolerance against certain communities and religions, which run counter to our core value of inclusion.”

Last month, Jones’s podcasts were removed from iTunes after Apple said it did not tolerate hate speech. YouTube soon took similar enforcement steps against Infowars, saying Jones had “repeatedly” violated its terms of service. Although Twitter initially resisted banning Jones, it, too, removed him from its platform earlier this month with a permanent suspension.

Twitter’s decision came hours after Jones appeared at a high-profile congressional hearing involving Twitter chief executive Jack Dorsey and Facebook chief operating officer Sheryl Sandberg. During the event, Jones was recorded heckling journalists and Sen. Marco Rubio (R-Fla.). Afterward, Jones tried to confront Dorsey as he was exiting the Senate office building where the hearing was held.

PayPal notified Infowars of the decision Thursday, prompting the site to accuse PayPal in a blog post of a “political ploy designed to financially sabotage an influential media outlet.” Infowars said PayPal had given it 10 days to find a new payment platform, after which PayPal’s services would no longer function.

PayPal declined to cite specific examples of Infowars’s problematic behavior. But Infowars has gained increasing attention — and criticism — for its role in spreading conspiracy theories and misinformation online. PayPal’s decision Friday makes it the latest tech company to ban Jones and his content from its platform, following in the footsteps of Apple, Facebook and Google, among others.

PayPal engages in ‘discriminatory intolerance’ against Infowars.

‘discriminatory intolerance’ is ok for PayPal, but not for Infowars.

First they came for the socialists, and I did not speak out—
Because I was not a socialist.

Then they came for the trade unionists, and I did not speak out—
Because I was not a trade unionist.

Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out—
Because I was not a Jew.

Then they came for me—and there was no one left to speak for me.

Sounds like they want to slow-walk a full disappearance of him. They deplatform, defund, and otherwise seek to diminish his influence - but not in a way that gives him any benefit.

“‘discriminatory intolerance’ is ok for PayPal, but not for Infowars.”

One time i was working for my father, selling his guns and swords online. My father deals in guns that were manufactured in 1898 or before because according to federal law they’re antiques. As a result, father didnt have to be bothered with government red tape and can legally sell them to anyone.

One of the sales i made was a 19th century japanese pistol. Sold it for 700 bucks and accepted payment through paypal. Paypal promptly froze my account, refusing to allow me to withdraw the 700 bucks because i violated their TOS (who reads those long winded things anyways?) that forbids accepting payments for guns and swords, even if the transaction is completely legal.

They told me that the account freeze will last 6 months and i wont be allowed to withdraw the money in my account before then. I called up their customer service to speak to a live person. I asked the rep if out of all the accounts they froze for 6 months, did they ever once relent and allowed the violator to withdraw their money before the 6 months was up? The rep laughed and said, “never”.

Still, i then wrote an email to paypal asking why it was wrong for me to accept funds through them for the purchase of a pistol, but it was ok for them to earn interest on those very same funds for 6 months? (Yes, thats what they do with your frozen funds: earn interest on it). A day or two later i got an email from paypal telling me that i will be allowed to withdraw my funds (though they will shut down my account and never allow me to accept payments throgh them ever again).

All Alex Jones has to do is prove, quite easily, that paypal does not enforce this rule consistently, which should be very easy to do, and sue their a$$es off.

Who are the completely unbiased arbritors of what constitutes "hate speech" and what doesn't constitute hate speech in the United States of America (LOL!)? And do those morons who are enforcing imaginary legal statutes know that free speech includes all speech, offensive or not?

I see, the morons are trying to set a social precedent for the idea of "hate speech" in the mind of the American public so that laws curbing our constitutional right of free speech will be as fait accompli

No can see what they're doing. We're all retards.

No. And they’re not going to. One of the things people need to realize is that hypocrisy is POWER. These companies ENJOY being openly-hypocritical. It’s a challenge to conservatives - “What are YOU going to do about it?” And thus far, the answer has been “nothing.”

It's okay. PayPal is a "private" corporation. They can ban anyone they like. All Alex Jones has to do is build another PayPal, and he'll be back in business in no time!
