Many of us wondered what the usually reliable Ed Whelan had up his sleeve the last few days, as he hinted that information would emerge that would force Dianne Feinstein to apologize to Brett Kavanaugh. Last night, as John reported, Whelan finally delivered — with a speculative and unsubstantiated theory of mistaken identity. More shockingly, Whelan named the person who might have conducted an assault on Christine Blasey Ford, without any evidence or corroboration.
After reading it myself, I thought: Ed must have something more than this, right? As it turns out … nope. This morning, Whelan deleted the tweets and issued an abject apology:

He didn't ask for it either, and could do nothing to stop it.
I already called him on it when The Gateway Pundit published the name of Kavanaugh lookalike — Chris Garrett (implying that it was Garrett who did the dastardly deed).
Whelan just opened himself up for a lawsuit.
What is with Ford and the PGA?
Not much difference from the original accusation.
And it gives means he accept that the woman isn’t lying.
This is getting weirder and wierder.

I agree that Whelan shouldn’t have done this and I would be happy to award substantial damages to the guy he outed in a lawsuit.
Nevertheless outing a person who might or might not have committed an assault without any evidence or corroboration is exactly what Christine Blasey Ford has done here.
It wasn’t a mistake. It was a way to box Ford in on denying it was this house and this other guy.
It was a trap and she fell for it.
I thought at the first reading that he had nationally maligned the character of someone he had never met or spoken to and would regret that action.
How do you know what is going on behind the scene?
What if Whelan had permission from all of the individuals named? Have you seen any denial from Garrett? What if this was a deliberate act to see if they could flush out some statement from Ford?

I don’t follow you. She’s denied that it was the other guy. Don’t think she ruled out that particular house. But why a trap? Do you think this guy is going to step forward and say “it was me”?
That's a pretty lame ass defense unless you think the original accusation was OK.
Whelan has apologized and deleted the thread.
I think there’s a party pick of the doppelgänger and the two friends she named partying that summer.
She’s denied being in the house and making out with the guy.
We haven’t heard his story.
No way a knowledgeable top lawyer like this would publish all this without a reason.
An assistant for Hatch linked to the twitter feed. It was a set up.
We will see how it plays out. Revisit this thread in a week or two and give me props if I’m right or call me down if the doppelgängers sues.
I didn’t see Whelan suggest that Mr Garrett assaulted Blasey Ford. Quite frankly I believe she made that up but I do believe that she may have been the main attraction at a party.
