Dem Senator Hirono: SCOTUS Seat Could Stay Vacant for Two Years
freebeacon.com ^ | 9/18/18 | Jeffrey Cimmino

Hawaii Sen. Mazie Hirono (D.) said Democrats could keep the open seat on the Supreme Court vacant until after the 2020 election if Brett Kavanaugh's nomination collapses and Democrats regain control of the Senate in November.

Hirono pointed to the long vacancy of Antonin Scalia's former seat as a justification for holding off on confirming any nominee from President Donald Trump. When Barack Obama was president and Republicans held the Senate, Sen. Majority Leader Mitch McConnell did not hold a vote on Obama's nominee Merrick Garland, and Hirono said Democrats could do the same if they had the Senate.

"I think we’ve had those kinds of vacancies before, and we certainly had over a one-year vacancy with Merrick Garland," Hirono told Politico Magazine. "So the world does not come to an end because we don’t fill all of the nominees."

We’d all better vote in Nov. like our lives depended on it ….because our lives do depend on it. God help us if these evil people ever re-gain control.

This is the plan and the GOP-e is dumb enough to fall for it.

Is she the nuttiest Senator in the bunch? I know there’s a lot of competition, but she’s routinely ahead.

How about this,Republicans win 10 seats and get a filibuster proof Senate like RATs had at the start of the Obama nation. Does that make me a dreamer now?

If I thought it would stay vacant forever, I would be willing to withdraw Kavanaugh’s nomination. The problem is that the Dems would appoint someone next time they are in control.

Two words: Recess Appointment.

The very first recess appointment (John Rutledge) in 1795 actually FAILED his eventual Senate confirmation vote (10-14), but served on the Bench anyway.

THe garland vacancey was going to take long anyway because it was unexpected, following a death. THis vacancy was created by retirement in the expectation it would get filled by October, like EVERY retirement vacancy has been in the recent history of the court.

The democrats also contributed to the long vacancy of Scalia’s seat, by blocking consideration of Gorsuch, requiring the republicans to remove the filibuster for SC judges.

And this vacancy would be much longer than “2 years”. It has already been 3 months, the 2020 election is 2 years and 2 months away, a new president wouldn’t make a nomination until Feb-march, and it would take a few months. So almost 3 years of vacancy. And Another vacancy could occur during that time.

This is the woman who asks every male, but not every female, if they ever “verbally sexually assaulted” a woman. If I were asked that, I would say “I have no doubt that at least one woman I spoke with in my entire life interpreted something I said as a verbal assault.”

Hirono is one of the stupidest senators currently serving. She is hyper partisan and apparently believes no woman ever lies and should always be believed. She, along with other Dems want to turn the Senate into the way Colleges handle sexual harassment charges i.e. the defendant can say nothing, can provide no defense can bring no documents or other information to defend himself. She is probably also one of those dumb Dems who believes if Trump is impeached that Hillary will be made president. Finally, I don’t recall any statements from Hirono condeming Franken for his actions when he was. So again, as with most Dems, only Conservatives are to be railroaded because some woman claims sexual assault or harassment.
