This Constitution Day, states should finally unwrap the gift of Article V

Sept. 17 is Constitution Day, when Americans commemorate the signing of the U.S. Constitution. Hence, there is no better time to reexamine the true intentions of the founding fathers on the power of the national government.

Despite popular conceptions that the Constitutional Convention lacked conflict, the founding fathers often debated the balance of power between the national and state governments, among many other issues. As ratification hung in the balance, two factions emerged: Federalists, who supported the Constitution and a strong central government, and anti-Federalists, who supported strong state governments.

ADVERTISEMENT To placate the anti-Federalists and ensure ratification, the Federalists promised to pass a Bill of Rights to protect individual liberty and state sovereignty. Despite the anti-Federalist fears of a tyrannical central government, the Constitution does include another safeguard against this affront to liberty: Article V.

Although never implemented, Article V gives states significant power that can — and should — be used today. Since the federal government continues to usurp power and excessively spend taxpayers’ money, there is no time like the present for states to put this to an end.

Article V allows state legislators to propose amendments to the Constitution. For this to take place, two-thirds of the states must submit applications to Congress for a convention of states to be called. After a convention is called, states can pass amendments to the Constitution without congressional approval. These amendments then need to be ratified by three-fourths of the states.

This election will certainly be a critical one. It’s very possible the balance of power in the State Houses will go the wrong way. I know Nevada almost signed up but one stubborn “Republican” leader held it up then the chance was lost as RATS took power again. Rather than leave it up to our outstanding President to fix things I believe the time is ripe because the enemy is so focused on Trump to effectively resist the COS train heading their way.(COS=Convention Of States)

A convention of states, even if it can agree on nothing, or its suggested amendments go nowhere, will show put to rest the silly fear of a runaway convention.

Without fundamental changes, such as repeal of the 17th Amendment, the accomplishments of PDJT will not long outlast him.

Are there any standing institutions not soiled by the Left? I'm not aware of any.

If we lose this November or November 2020, it will be due to the millions of *ucking illegals sponsored by the rats and GOP elites.

But, the rats do not dominate the two remaining federal institutions, the Electoral College and an Article V COS. The Electoral College especially drives them mad.

As you say, and I agree, the time is ripe for the sovereign people to exercise their sovereignty. If we don't, we may lose it for generations.

Too many commies and liberal Republicants.

The left already rewrites the Constitution without the prescribed process. Do you want them to keep that advantage? Even Jefferson realized early on the danger of that power the Court of Supreme Whim seized early on. It's Dred Scott decision literally pushed the country into war killing over 620,000 Americans in the ensuing Republican-Democrat war.

The COS is the way to correct all these mistakes America has learned the hard way over the last 2 centuries. Remember 3/4's of the state houses have to amend anything that passes. It's a high hurtle to cross. Here is what actually happened at a simulated convention .

I am opposed to the “con con,” primarily because there is too much danger that LIEberals and Establishment types will control the outcome, and their outcome (their LIEberal mischief) will most certainly NOT move the USA in the direction of more FReedom!

As I have stated previously, the “con con” IS a con!

If we are able to keep the Trump Revolution going by keeping Republicans in control of the House and Senate on Nov. 6, we CAN TAKE THE COUNTRY BACK!

All we need to do is purge the Congress of LIEberals and Establishment types, and help POTUS drain the swamp. Once that is done, the burning issues that the “con con” purports to address can be addressed very nicely!

And, it is up to us to purge the body politic of said LIEberals and Establishment types!

Republicans control the majority of the state houses. At present, Republicans control 67 of the 99, and control both chambers in 32 states.
So who, if not Republicans, are holding up your article V convention?

If you wish to educate yourself (doubtful), I shredded Publius Huldah and her concon nonsense over a seven part series beginning here:

Or it won't.

Why would a COS runway? What do you mean by runaway?

Right, but first the totalitarian ruling class must be destroyed using the existing Military Justice system. That is coming, after the mid-term elections. Besides, we are almost a year into Revelation Chapter 12, so PDJT is probably the “Last Trump”. ;-)

I am opposed to the “con con"...

It's a Convention of States for proposing amendments. Nothing more than Congress can do anytime it has the votes. Getting enough states together to call one is an even higher hurtle.

We've trusted Congress with this power and what has it done with it? It has CENTRALIZED POWER! That's what it has done! Under the guise of ending slavery it seized power from the states . (A good thing at the time but it should have been temporary) .

Congress has seized the power to take our ENTIRE income and force us to audit ourselves for them. (Notice no limits there either, only their whim prevents taking it ALL). Can you image Minutemen crawling before the almighty state meekly making excuses for how they got and spent THEIR OWN MONEY?

Congress has made the Senate meaningless by taking the state houses out of the picture. (The State houses were happy to unload the responsibility, too people were holding THIER feet to the fire over who they picked for Senators! Since so much power now sits in Washington who even cares about state seats anymore?)

Congress has made incumbency so powerful only acts of God can get rid of some of it's worst members (Ted Kennedy, John McCain, Robert Byrd)

Even the giant bureaucracy FDR gave birth to is now a power onto itself beyond control. Notice the trouble it's giving one of the best and most effective Presidents we've had in a long time?

You think the District of Criminals is about to let any of that power go? Twenty Trillion dollars in debt says otherwise. I for one don't want these criminals to have control any longer and the COS is the way to stop the CON's in the District of Criminals! Only a revolution could change the order of things as much and as history shows, it's a very poor option most of the time!

So who, if not Republicans, are holding up your article V convention?

It often IS Republicans holding up the process! Andy Biggs of Arizona was the Senate leader here. He held it up. Then he moved on into Congress and soon afterwords Arizona joined the call! It's usually the same stubborn FUD types like we see here at Freerepublic in the state houses that is holding this back. FEAR is our enemies greatest weapon and he is wielding it very effectively.

Exactly. We don’t know that we control it, and who does is up for grabs.

Do you not think that if the liberals have a majority vote that they wouldn’t ram down our throats their amendments??

The legislatures do not control the convention. In fact, there are no rules about the convention. NO one knows how it will be governed. No one, but if recent history is any clue, many Republicans would side with the Democrats.

You fear the state legislatures will send schlubs, Bernie Bots off the streets to do as they wish at a COS?
