Senate Democrats sending secret letter about Kavanaugh to FBI
The Hill ^ | 13 Aug 2018 | JORDAIN CARNEY

Senate Democrats have referred a letter concerning Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh to the FBI for investigation.

“This matter has been referred to the FBI for investigation,” Sen. Dick Durbin (D-Ill.), the No. 2 Senate Democrat and a member of the Judiciary Committee, told BuzzFeed News on Thursday about the letter.

A source familiar with the matter confirmed to The Hill that the letter had been referred to the FBI for investigation.

The letter has been the subject of days of intrigue on Capitol Hill but the contents of it have not been publicly disclosed by senators who have seen the document.

Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.) was given the letter by Calif. Rep. Anna Eshoo (D), according to multiple reports.

But Feinstein, the top Democrat on the Judiciary Committee, has refused to answer multiple questions about the letter over the past two days.

She confirmed in a statement on Thursday that she had referred the matter to federal authorities.

"I have received information from an individual concerning the nomination of Brett Kavanaugh to the Supreme Court. That individual strongly requested confidentiality, declined to come forward or press the matter further," Feinstein said.

"I have honored that decision. I have, however, referred the matter to federal investigative authorities," she continued.

Questions about the letter boiled over on Wednesday after The Intercept published a piece saying Feinstein had refused to share the content of the letter with other members on the committee.

Sources told The Intercept that the letter was relayed by an individual affiliated with Stanford University. Some sources told the publication that it was about an incident involving Kavanaugh and a woman while they were in high school.

“That’s what happens when you give that evil RATS too much time to play in the playground!”

This same concept applies to President Trump allowing any more time before doing something to stop the Mueller investigation or declassifying documents. They WILL come up with something incredibly damaging! These people are so desperate they launched a silent coup. And they are probably backed by monstrous amounts of leftist money.

They are desperate. The democrats paid someone to fabricate this at the last minute. They know damned well that Kavanaugh did nothing. The fbi is corrupt too, as are democrats.

Let me guess. He tried to stick his tongue down her throat and she slapped him because his pimples grossed her out. How series.

A ridiculous Hail Mary that will go nowhere. It’s from his high school years. Unless he killed someone this is a nothing burger.

Dude.

This is only the tip of the iceberg. It’s way worse than this allegation.

Kavanaugh ran after a kindergarten girl once, when he was 6 years old.

NO WAY WE CAN VOTE ON HIM!

Without any information or a name of an accuser, this is just defamation of character against Kavanaugh. This is a typical democratic tactic, to slander a person with no more information than an accusation. The democrats are really something.

How low will they go? It seems there are no depths too low for the Senate Rats to plummet. They don’t like his politics so they come up with any unsubstantiated slime they can drag up or make up. This is truly disgusting...

What is really disgusting is this managed to delay the vote till next Thursday.

No, it didn't.

The News Misleadia is crowing that the Democrats managed to delay the vote a week.

But, as usual, it's a lie. Lies are the stock in trade of the News Misleadia.

Note the text in this article from 5 days ago, from NPR:

“Friday, the Senate Judiciary Committee wrapped up four days of hearings on the Supreme Court nomination of Judge Brett Kavanaugh. The committee is likely to vote on Kavanaugh in about two weeks.”

So, the News Misleadia falsely reports the scheduled two-week-away,one-week-ago vote as a victory for the Democrats, and everyone falls for it.

I bet the day before the vote, CBS news will breathlessly report, “In a stunning victory, the Democrat Party postponed the Kavanaugh vote until tomorrow.”

WIKI-—Making false statements (18 U.S.C. § 1001) is the common name for the United States federal crime laid out in Section 1001 of Title 18 of the United States Code, which generally prohibits knowingly and willfully making false or fraudulent statements, or concealing information, in “any matter within the jurisdiction” of the federal government of the United States,[1] even by merely denying guilt when asked by a federal agent.[2]

A number of notable people have been convicted under the section, including Martha Stewart,[3] Rod Blagojevich,[4] Michael T. Flynn,[5] Rick Gates,[6] Scooter Libby,[7] Bernard Madoff,[8] and Jeffrey Skilling.[9]

This statute is used in many contexts. Most commonly, prosecutors use this statute to reach cover-up crimes such as perjury, false declarations, and obstruction of justice and government fraud cases.[10]

Its earliest progenitor was the False Claims Act of 1863. In 1934, the requirement of an intent to defraud was eliminated. This was to prosecute successfully, under the National Industrial Recovery Act of 1933 (NIRA), the producers of “hot oil”, i.e. oil produced in violation of restrictions established by NIRA. In 1935, NIRA was declared unconstitutional by the Supreme Court.

The statute spells out this purpose in subsection 18 U.S.C. § 1001(a), which states:

(a) Except as otherwise provided in this section, whoever, in any matter within the jurisdiction of the executive, legislative, or judicial branch of the Government of the United States, knowingly and willfully—

(1) falsifies, conceals, or covers up by any trick, scheme, or device[ , ] a material fact;
(2) makes any materially false, fictitious, or fraudulent statement or representation; or
(3) makes or uses any false writing or document knowing the same to contain any materially false, fictitious, or fraudulent statement or entry
shall be fined under this title, imprisoned not more than 5 years or, if the offense involves international or domestic terrorism (as defined in section 2331),[11] imprisoned not more than 8 years, or both....
