A Long Prairie man with a suspended driver's license was pulled over on Highway 27 after reaching speeds of nearly 130 miles per hour with a blood alcohol concentration over the legal limit and with a teenage boy who was riding in the vehicle with him, according to authorities.
Pedro Emmanuel Reyes Cartagena, 32, was charged in Todd County District Court Aug. 20 with two gross misdemeanor counts of driving under the influence of alcohol.
According to the criminal complaint:
At 2:29 a.m. on Aug. 19, an Osakis police officer followed a blue sedan on Highway 27 and saw it appear to stop at an intersection without a stop sign. The vehicle then quickly traveled around the block on Lake Street and turned back onto Highway 27.
The officer followed the vehicle and was able to keep pace with it while driving 128 miles per hour in his marked squad car. The officer continued to follow the driver as he continued east on Highway 27 and was unable to close the gap.
The driver occasionally tapped his brake lights and then eventually stopped. In talking to the driver, identified as Cartagena, the officer said he could smell alcohol on Cartagena's breath and observed bloodshot, watery, glassy eyes.
One of the occupants in the sedan was a 14-year-old male.
A preliminary blood alcohol test at the scene showed Cartagena had a blood alcohol level of 0.12.
Cartagena's next court appearance, an omnibus hearing, is scheduled for Oct. 22.
Minniesoda ain't what it used to be. this isn't far from my old stomping grounds and family that still lives in that area.
Be careful out there folks. Look both ways twice. You're on your own.
Heads up!
“A blue sedan”?
Inquiring minds need to know.
Fastest Ive gone is 70 on the rural interstate. Any faster and I feared I would have lost control.
Of course I was also a teen at the time. Neither of us is now.
Could have been Robert Beto ORourke.
And then your brain grew too.
Alcohol free, of course.. and using your turn signals too. :-)
>>>being 0.12 isn’t that much over the limit<<<
Since the Legal Limit is now .08, I guess 50% over the Limit isn’t that much. #;^)
Next time I’m doing 95+ MPH in a 65 MPH Zone and get pulled over, I’ll tell the Cop that it isn’t that much over the Speed Limit. LOL
Dad wound up the 74 LTD to a little over a hundred on a country road back in the 80s.
That 4 door tank had more speed in it but there wasn’t enough road.
Camaro, Mustang? There’s a fella on the east coast who built a Prius Helcat.
“Camaro, Mustang? “
Article says sedan.
A Long Prairie man

Yeah, I just bet he is ...........
It was a 60 Vet and had more to go, but as the song said. The highway lines looked like dots. There was a gentle curve ahead which I knew I could do at 100 so I slowed down.
I liked it because I could put two of my boys in the back jump seats so their older brother in the second row couldn't touch them, and vice versa. That was better for their health as I didn't have to stop every mile to beat them.

...
The real concern is whether the tires can handle it.
He’s likely farm worker or ?? This is still a heavy agricultural area. I will follow this case and update if issues arise with status. He’s lucky he only got two gross misdemeanors charged for this stunt.
Missing charges:
- driving on a suspended license
- DUI 0.12 (”gross misdemeanor” sounds interesting)
- instant jail for 50+ MPH over the speed limit (most states)
- endangerment of a minor
Whats his legal status? Is he here illegally? Who is the tenn aged boy?
My Pop had the 71 ltd that thing got up and scooted good
