A womens college volleyball team in Missouri played in gray T-shirts after the college dropped Nike uniforms over the companys decision to select Colin Kaepernick as the face of its new advertising campaign.
The College of the Ozarks volleyball team wore t-shirts during Fridays match instead of the maroon long-sleeved jerseys that contained the Nike swoosh, The Springfield News-Leader reported.
The new attire came days after the College of the Ozarks President Jerry Davis said in a statement that the school would choose its country over company and remove Nikes logo from its athletic uniforms.
The decision came after Nike announced that former San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick would be the face of its 30th anniversary Just Do It campaign.
Kaepernick has been under fire since 2016 when he first took a knee to protest racial injustice during the pre-game playing of the national anthem.
If Nike is ashamed of America, we are ashamed of them, Davis said in a statement. We also believe that those who know what sacrifice is all about are more likely to be wearing a military uniform than an athletic uniform.
"Nike is free to campaign as it sees fit, as the college is free, and honor-bound by its mission and goals, to ensure that it respects our country and those who truly served and sacrificed, added Marci Linson, the college's dean of admissions.
Doesn’t matter.
This isn’t the Nike target audience.
Great College. Only for hard working students.
Nike doesn’t care.
On line sales to gang bangers is their target audience.
And the NFL.
Good!
College of the Ozarks is great, work-study and strong conservative atmosphere.
Sure Nike doesn’t care but they didn’t to this to impress anyone, they did it to be true to their own values.
They are obviously not affiliated with the Mizzou Tigers.
Great decision by the school.
Wait until all those southern universities drop their Nike shoe programs.
The College of the Ozarks is awesome. Tough to get into, but very affordable and jobs aplenty when you graduate. They were on my daughter’s short list.
Drop the Nike bling, and they'll have trouble recruiting the future felons that they need if they want to remain national contenders.
That one is great.
Took my grand daughter for a campus tour back in October. We were very impressed. (She’s 8yo)
All of their convocation speakers exemplify patriotism in the highest degree.
They have a student run restaurant and hotel, the Keeter Center. The rooms are amazing, and the Sunday brunch is to die for. Make reservations a month in advance, though!
Thank you Jerry Davis, I hope this is the first of many who dump Nike.
Someone should make a Kaep meme “Believe in something, even if you were benched.”
People need to realize the sleazebag started the entire thing because he didn’t want to be embarrassed getting beat out. He didn’t want his new muzzie girlfriend to see him riding the pine. He pulled this stunt to get favorable reviews from her because she had a history of jumping from football player to another.
I was at College of the Ozarks yesterday. They have a great tribute to fallen former students that joined the military. Very impressed with them. I am going to contact the school and offer to do volunteer work for them ASAP.
If you go there you must try the ice cream. It is made on site and the flavor is hardly describable. The best I have ever had by far. Nothing even comes close.
Love the concept and love the place after visiting.
We conservative Christians should do all we can to support schools like this.
Totally true. Can you imagine !
I'm thinking of starting a whole Photoshop thread. Al Frankin 'Just grab it' .Mad Moe 'Just Jihad it' . Obama 'Just take it'. (10 trillion!)
Some more: Senator Spartacus: Just lose it! Mad Maxine:Just Undo it ! ( the election)
