Theologians, lay leaders call for mass resignations of US bishops.
National Catholic Reporter ^ | Aug 17, 2018 | Heidi Schlumpf

Posted on 08/19/2018 3:25:30 PM PDT by O6ret

More than 140 theologians, educators and lay leaders have called for all U.S. bishops to submit their resignations to Pope Francis, much like Chile's 34 bishops did in May after revelations of sexual abuse and corruption, as a public act of penance and a "willing abdication of earthly status." "Today, we call on the Catholic Bishops of the United States to prayerfully and genuinely consider submitting to Pope Francis their collective resignation as a public act of repentance and lamentation before God and God's People," said a statement, posted in English and Spanish on the Daily Theology blog on Friday.

Repentance is necessary… but there is no salvation for the Church without leadership.

“Who am I to judge” Francis is unable/unwilling to provide the change needed. He has protected the guilty with plum jobs in Rome, promoted known sinners and their defenders and denied obvious truths when placed before him.

Not even the detailed and damning report of the DA from Pennsylvania could elicit more than the now familiar and trite claims of "embarrassment" and "sorrow" and "pain" at the suffering of those who have fallen prey to men they trusted and the Church they loved.

The Pope should dismiss the College of Cardinals and then resign. Benedict will assume the Papacy, request that all Bishops submit their resignations and begin anew to reconstitute the Church.

Every State DA should follow PA's lead, track down the guilty (and their accomplices) and remand all to the court system. All homosexual and/or pederast priests must be drummed out of the Church and/or the seminaries where they hide.

Count me in! Purge the Church of these hideous enablers, who have perpetuated the rape of babies. I don’t like to be too graphic, but imagine a big, drunken priest’s penis penetrating the anus of a six-year-old first grade boy! It really happened, in Massachusetts, in the 90’s. Read the trial transcripts, if you don’t believe me. The other priest in that rectory went in to use the shower. It was covered in blood. He never reported this criminal act.

Every bishop resigning and PF naming their replacements? Not a good idea!

Stormy Daniels is a “lay leader” and should be consulted.

The NC Reporter is a disingenuous rag.

With that said, the bishops who have been in schism for decades and never did listen to JPII or Benedict should just leave, but they won't.

We don’t need bishops at all! Don’t even replace them! They are as useful as tits on a boar!

I know, bert! Why hasn’t there been a great uprising amongst the laity for what these pervs have been getting away with fof fifty-plus years?

Uh no. Only Communists hate justice.

List which Bishops & Cardinals were involved.

Resign them. Imprison some.

No! All are guilty! Every Diocese! I have been reading trial transcripts for 20 years. Do your own research.

There are too many faithful Bishops to brush all out of their appointed offices with a single stroke. The Dioceses of Covington, KY has an excellent Shepherd - Bishop Foys. Any suggestion that Pope Francis should replace Bishop Foys is a definite no.

Mine too. In the catholic caucus. I didn't even know it was limited to practicing catholics until I was asked to not participate. And I was even baptized in a catholic church and had my first communion. Catholic for life I am, I was told. But not catholic enough to post in their caucus. All my posts there were censored through deletion. That gives you an idea of the mindset of those who call themselves catholics. They don't want to hear the truth and will censor you and ban you just like DU or any leftist forum or Facebook. When the laity are that protective of their precious church then you know the homosexuals and pedophiles that corrupt every level of the church have nothing to fear. Their own church members are just going to pay lip service to anything negative about the church.

Problem is the Vatican is probably is at the root of the scandal. They would get rid of the good bishops and keep all the perps.

Well said! A re-seed of the church at the hands of Francis? Probably not a good idea. Plus ... not all priests are guilty and many are good servants of Christ. The process should be thoughtful and selective.

But I did.

Francis should be part of the resignation-group. He really doesn’t care if homosexuals and pedophiles are in the priesthood as long as they are “celibate”. This’ll be swept under the rug...again.
