Ocasio-Cortez Tells Hawaii Dems Her Life Shaped By ‘Unaddressed History of Imperialism’
Breitbart ^ | 08/10/18 | Tony Lee

Posted on 08/11/2018 9:15:31 AM PDT by Enlightened1

Democratic-Socialist Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, who, as Breitbart News reported, was born in the Bronx and raised in the affluent suburb of Westchester, told Hawaii Democrats on Thursday evening that her life has been shaped by “an unaddressed history of imperialism and poverty.”

Ocasio-Cortez was campaigning for Hawaii Democratic congressional candidate Kaniela Ing ahead of this weekend’s primary election and argued that Hawaii felt like a “kindred home” because she also comes “from a place of colonized people.”

Ocasio-Cortez said that she and Ing had similar life experiences even though they grew up worlds apart because they both lost their fathers when they were young and had to work multiple jobs to help their families make ends meet. And, she added, “We come from a family and a place that had been colonized.”

She told the crowd that her mother was from Puerto Rico and many of her family members still live there before claiming that she and Ing were “shaped by the exact same forces” like “runaway income inequality, an unaddressed history of imperialism, and poverty.”

She added that Puerto Ricans and Hawaiians still have to deal “with the consequences of those struggles.”

“While the entire country wants to forget that history, we’re not allowed to,” she said. “We are not afforded the privilege to forget about the colonial history of our island, and neither is Hawaii.”

Ocasio-Cortez has been campaigning for likeminded candidates across the country to build a bench of left-wing Democratic-socialist candidates. She implied on CNN earlier in the week that even though some of her candidates, like Michigan gubernatorial candidate Abdul El-Sayed, lost to establishment Democrats earlier in the week, they beat the spread and helped “move the needle forward in the fight for social and economic dignity in the United States.”

Elizabeth Warren is imploring her to play the native American card.

Victims are weak and defenseless. That is why they are victims. Victims need Defenders, who are strong and powerful. Why would anyone choose as a leader a "victim," and not a "defender?"

Anyone who claims to be a "victim" should automatically be disqualified from any leadership position.

Her, Hillary, Nancy and Maxine are doing Trump more good than an honest media ever could.

**************

Absolutely right! Its kind of ironic that these darlings of the leftist media do so much (unintentionally) to help Trump. Every time they speak its pure gold for him.

Typical ranting liberal. She really doesn’t know a freaking thing and pimps her “cause” as if it makes sense or is based on facts.

Which makes her a lot like Obama.....

Never underestimate the idiots that will support her.

Which is good, actually. Her radicalization will draw off some Democrats and there are already some realizing just how stupid this is. So they’ll have to oppose her. Typical Socialist Democrats who won’t like being told what to do will fight back and support her stupidity.

After her brilliant analysis of “the occupation” it’s time for more popcorn.

I think she’s been listening to David Hogg rant from the balcony.

Think about it...

She is a reflection of the Marxism that is being taught in public schools and colleges.

Academia needs to be investigated and purged of all of the Socialists/Communists professors and teachers in the economics and history departments. These people are praising Mao and Marx while trashing Washington and Jefferson.

This is a BIG REASON why we have so many issues dealing with these Authoritarian Control Freaks.

I would love to hear her define imperialism.

"Define"? "DEFINE"??? Having to define words is, is, so imperialistic!

“Maybe Hillary could write a book..................”

Yeah, and if she titles it “What Happened?” then Trump can come up with his own book called, “I Kicked Your Ass.”

Puerto Rico is (yet another) corrupt and failed experiment in Hispanic self-government...and this is WITH the help of billions of white, imperialist dollars. Just think what they could have done on their own, like Cuba or Venezuela.

So before she won her primary, she was a bartender who allegedly sometimes lifted her coworker’s tips. And now she has the means to fly to Hawaii and campaign there? Where is her money coming from?

Socialism and victim mentality is not the answer but there are ramifications to the dynamics set in motion by colonialism. That is not heresy to suggest. It is historical fact. It is also true that this fact can be easy for us take to take for granted.

Rather than bash the echoes of the darker side of colonial legacies, it is better to tout the Conservative-minded reforms which exist to target such circumstances and places. It’s a shame now that liberals have to hijack the narrative.
