Think The Constitution Will Save Us? Think Again

Consider a few facts: Donald Trump is in the White House, despite winning almost three million fewer votes than Hillary Clinton. The Senate, the country’s most powerful legislative chamber, grants the same representation to Wyoming’s 579,315 residents as it does to 39,536,653 Californians. Key voting rights are denied to citizens in the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico and other United States territories. The American government is structured by an 18th-century text that is almost impossible to change.

These ills didn’t come about by accident; the subversion of democracy was the explicit intent of the Constitution’s framers. For James Madison, writing in Federalist No. 10, “Democracies have ever been spectacles of turbulence and contention” incompatible with the rights of property owners. The byzantine Constitution he helped create serves as the foundation for a system of government that rules over people, rather than an evolving tool for popular self-government.

Writers on the left such as Jacobin’s Seth Ackerman and the journalist Daniel Lazare have long argued that constitutional reform needs to be on the agenda. Even some liberals like Vox’s Matthew Yglesias rightly worry that the current system of governance is headed toward collapse.

There are plenty on the right who would tear away Constitutional barriers to gaining power. Cf., e.g., Cruz, Rubio, Jindal.

Having these bastards in power under the Constitution is bad enough. Having these bastards in power without the Constitution is unacceptable.

What is that quote about watering the tree of Liberty?

The fact that the Constitutional was created at all, IMHO, is a miracle.

When has it ever happened in before or since in human history that a brand new system of government can be created, for a new nation, a blank slate of land, protected by oceans, away from the influence of foreign powers, based on Christian social beliefs, Enlightenment view of the individual, property and private rights?

Never before and never since. And it has been under attack since day one, but it really accelerated after 1913 and the rise of Progressivism and Socialism.

soebarkah is an enemy islamist, Kenyan born fake who never should have been President. I’d like see as much of what he did, undone, and all of his post-presidential perks and benefits annulled.

Then he should be thrown into a dank cell until he is hanged.

“Key voting rights are denied to citizens in the District of Columbia”

The DoC belongs to Congress.

That’s why we are a republic not a democracy. Mob rule would ensue. New York and California would be ruling the whole country and telling us what we can and cannot do. If they want to change the Constitution they must call for a convention of states. 3/4 oof the states must ratify it. Never going to happen.

They worship themselves. They are like Golum in Lord of the Rings.

Very good. Without connecting the dots I noted during Viet Nam that libs high in government such Robert McNamara would get bent wildly out of shape over some normal tragedy of life if one of their godlike compeers suffered but displayed complete contempt for rank and file members of the armed forces.

He could have been born in Hawaii and he’s still a Kenyan owing to his Kenyan father, who being a British subject at the time also made him a British subject and he was later an Indonesian citizen.

Natural born citizens have one nationality.

“Living Constitution” is the heart’s desire of those with the will to power.

Let us keep the Electoral College and give all the Living Constitution believers free tickets to establish residence in the loony left coast states, both east and west.

The House of Representatives was supposed to be the most powerful legislative body.

Quit reading at end of first sentence.

If the author doesn’t realize that Trump would have run a different campaign if popular vote mattered, it cannot grasp more complex reasoning about well-established topics.

Cruz, Rubio, Jindal...........and George P. Bush.
I think he is the real reason the GOP wants to eliminate the natural born citizen requirement.

What’s the big deal? Vermont has only 50,000 more residents than Wyoming. I get it, Vermont’s ok because it’s liberal as hell.

Key voting rights are denied to citizens in the District of Columbia

The residents of DC are free to move to a real state and gain those voting rights.

“..almost impossible to change” (the Constitution). The key word is “almost”, if you want to change it, keep working on it. While we enjoy the social and political stability it provided for this country for more than 200 years!

The Constitution by itself cannot save us.
We however can save the Constitution
and by doing so save our way of life.

They want this thing they don’t fully understand: Democracy. But to get it, they want to disarm the people so that the only voice with power is the government. They censor voices they don’t like.

We will have to fight for our freedom very soon. Real fighting. Not voting.

Final tally shows Trump lost popular vote by 2.8 million – but he BEAT Clinton by 3 million votes outside of California and New York

Overall Trump won approximately 2,600 counties to Clinton’s 500, or about 84% of the geographic United States
