“Why did it take so long to award him the medal of honor?”
Post 14 sums it up petty well.
The blood of the warrior runs strong in this one.
The video did not upset me. Its shot in infrared so all one sees is black dots moving around in the snow.
There was a commission to review awards that SHOULD have been honored. The list included African Americans, Hispanics and Jews. That seems so foriegn to me these days. But it was a different world. At least they are rescinding the ones they DID honor back then. Fixing a wrong is one thing. Changing history is another.
And the media perpetuate it ... as if that's the biggest news of the day.
No NFL for me.
Yes... and the SEALs were upset that their man wasn’t up for the MoH, apparently. Both were up for the highest service award (Air Force / Navy), but were saying if the Air Force guy was to be upgraded to MoH, the Navy guy should be too.
/politics, it infects EVERYTHING
May all the spineless, gutless “kneelers” go broke financially. They’re already morally bankrupt, IMO.
Wow, that man was something.
Later
“May all the spineless, gutless kneelers go broke financially. Theyre already morally bankrupt, IMO.”
That will take everyone who patronizes “professional sports” to say I’m done. But unless all the fat f*cks who want to lie in front of the big screen with a beer and blow farts all the while, are willing to become patriots, the over paid B&W MFers who are at the root of the problem will continue to have the money to act disgracefully, beat the f*ck out of their “women,” and generally $hit on the country that made their “success” possible.
+1
Way too sad!! Think of this hero and his family “every” time you see a POS taking a knee at a NFL game.
That should turn off a few million more TVs.
Ping
last full measure of devotion... RIP
Well said!
Chapman was not a FAC. He was an Air Force Combat Controller. The Air Force equivalent to a Navy Seal. They have a 90-95% washout rate. Bad ass does not begin to describe them. Chapmans MOH was held up because the Navy didnt want it mentioned that he was left behind on the mountain. The AF Secretary started his AF Cross upgrade BECAUSE of his actions after he was mistakenly left behind. Interservice bickering is why it was held up. As far as I know there will be no mention in his MOH citation detailing his heroic actions fighting alone on the mountain, and if thats the case its BS. Both Chapman and Slabinski deserved it. To hell with whatever general held it up.
“Why has one still never been awarded to John Ripley?”
No definitive response but to the best of knowledge, John Ripley was serving as an advisor to a Vietnamese command and not directly under US command. Beyond that, politics may offer explanation.
In near time, a US Navy SEAL and a Vietnamese Sea Commando rescued a USAF airman who had been shot down. The initial action and rescue were under direct command of US forces. The SEAL and Sea Commando were respectively awarded the Medal of Honor and Navy Cross for their actions.
Thus, in each instance the criteria for awards made appear to have been directly influenced by command structure and not performance.
