More than cutting off welfare, Turkey has been working directly against our interests in Syria and Iraq. We finally have a leader who is willing to push back and ensure those who oppose us know there is a price to be paid. If Turkey wants to cozy up with Russia and Iran, good luck with that. You ain’t dealing with Obama or the Clinton Foundation any more...

You forgot, killed a million and a half Armenian Christians, and are now murdering Kurds.
I hate the Turks.

I wonder if this crisis will cascade and affect Iran, too.

Poor things! turkey is NOT our ally! If they kick out the muzzies and go back to being a secular republic, then they can be our friends.

This could be his finest moment as POTUS.

When that rat-faced,devil-worshipping Muslim weasel Erdogan asked if we're going to sever relations because of a pastor, my first thought was "damn straight we are!"

When I was a little kid we visited the Montebello Genocide Memorial and I got to learn about how the lovely Turks tried to murder all of the Armenians.

I’ve never forgotten it.

When I was a kid growing up in a northeastern NJ town some fifty years ago I had a school friend who's grand parents and many aunts and uncles were all killed in the Armenian Genocide. Only his mother and her younger brother made it out because a Christian Iraqi friend smuggled them out some how and then they eventually made it here to live with some relatives.

I like this power move by President Trump, but the drop in the Lira is being driven primarily by economic turmoil in Turkey itself with inflation hitting double-digits and Erdogan stubbornly pledging NOT to raise interest rates in order stem the inflationary tide. Additionally; he recently made some changes domestically that would give him more of a hands-on role in setting economic and interest rate policy in Turkey (which is when the downslide in the Turkish Lira began). To top it all off, he replaced Turkey's former finance minister with his son-in-law to ensure that he had a reliable puppet to carry out his edicts.

The US sanctions for failing to release the pastor and the additional tariffs were just additional fuel to the fire.
