We should know by now, shouldnt we? Pay little heed to Donald Trumps words and judge him by his actions.
So after the rambling tweets and that embarrassing showing in Helsinki the one when he stood beside Vladimir Putin and said he accepted the Russian presidents word that Kremlin goons had not interfered in the 2016 election (Mr Trump later said he misspoke) - now we have the concrete action.
These come with dramatic consequences, from downgrading diplomatic relations to cutting off almost all exports and imports.
It represents a clear statement of intent by this administration. And sends a clear message to Moscow that it will be cast into the cold unless it submits to an international regime of inspections a humiliating scenario for any world leader but all the more so for a strongman like Mr Putin who came to power and built his reputation as a figure intent on restoring national pride.
Of course, now we are all locked into our parallel universes, or bubbles, or echo chambers, reflecting pools or whatever you choose call them, this will not be enough for the critics. They will say that Mr Trumps hands are tied by the 1991 law. He had no choice. And they will continue to claim without evidence that Mr Putin has some kind of compromising material that gives him a hold over the American president.
Or, on the other side, they will say he was pushed into it by the deep state officials who still control elements of the security apparatus. Coerced against his will into a policy he didnt want. (That looks ludicrous in black and white, doesn't it?)
Thats not how it must seem in Russia today....

“Pay little heed to Donald Trumps words and judge him by his actions.”
His words speak to his actions. Otherwise, I wouldn’t bother listening.
Surprise surprise. How could the idiot smelly deplorable who voted for him have known?
The Telegraph trying to rehabilitate their credibility?
What's so unusual about Law Abiding President Trump enforcing existing US Law?
He does the same with Illegal Alien Criminal violations of US Immigration Law, you Socialist shilling Telegraph.
Use the Russian Hacking hoax as the reason to tighten up all aspects of election security and information assurance.
Use the 9/11 attacks as the reason to continually tighten border security and immigration policy.
His words can appropriately be diplomatic. Id expect no less of any President. The actions and inactions speak louder than words, as they do with all of us.
Why all this sourness among us? Better late to the party than never to arrive at all.
Most of us can’t read the entire article at the site without signing up.
That said, I would like to know what the evidence is that the UK supplied to the US to convince everyone Russia did the deed.
Not because I’m necessarily skeptical of it. I’m skeptical of all international dealings and US institutions. And UK. And Russia. And let’s not forget those Germans and Ukrainians.
You know, for the record.
What possible sources and methods could outweigh that knowledge for the people? Especially since they say publicly they have identified the agent and it’s source.
I’d think that if the US and UK want to dispel any doubts as to the legitimacy and efficacy of their assertion they would want to characterize and detail what evidence they possess.
I, for one, would want to know they have Russia dead to rights.
Or don’t.
I had to join to post the article in the first place.
Amen!
“Mr Putin who came to power and built his reputation as a figure intent on restoring national pride. “
How dreadful! Good thing the US has a nice squishy marshmallow POTUS, who’s intent on removing national pride...oh, wait.
Trump did NOT say he believed the Russians. He said “My people came to me, Dan Coates, came to me and some others they said they think it’s Russia. I have President Putin. He just said it’s not Russia.
I will say this: I don’t see any reason why it would be. But I really do want to see the server but I have, I have confidence in both parties.”
The old “Talk politely and come out swinging the big stick when they opt to not play nice” tactics...been a long time since we had such a Man as President.
We’ll never see the DNC server, because the “hack” was an inside job to steal the RNC files. IMO the DNC was never hacked. Wiki leaks was just that, a leak, and the “Russians” never tried to hack the DNC server. They’re just saying that to cover their tracks.
[How dreadful! Good thing the US has a nice squishy marshmallow POTUS, whos intent on removing national pride...oh, wait.]
