The Ancient War Between The Press And The President
Townhall.com ^ | August 9, 2018 | Victor Davis Hanson

Posted on 08/09/2018 11:42:08 AM PDT by Kaslin

The media are furious that President Trump serially decries "fake news." He often rants that journalists who traffic in it are "enemies of the people."

Reporters have compared Trump to mass murderers such as Stalin and Hitler because of his dislike of the press.

Trump may be crude to reporters, but journalists are also not so innocent. They have brought much of the present calumny upon themselves in a variety of ways.

The media seem to have little concern that their coverage is biased even though polls show that the vast majority of Americans believe the media intentionally reports fake news.

Indeed, fake news is not a Trump exaggeration. Despite coverage to the contrary, Trump did not remove a bust of Martin Luther King Jr. from the Oval Office. Testimony by former FBI Director James Comey revealed that senior Trump campaign officials did not consult "senior Russian intelligence officials," as the New York Times reported. Putin denied having compromising information on Trump during an NBC interview after an earlier NBC report said Putin did not deny having such information.

Despite hysterical reports that in testimony before Congress, Comey would refute Trump's claim that Comey had assured him he was not under investigation, Comey instead confirmed Trump's story.

The list of such false news reports is long. The common theme is that even recklessly derogatory news is seen by many as serving the higher purpose of delegitimizing the Trump presidency.

In the real Good Old Days, you could challenge some loudmouth so-called press guy to a duel and given most of those lefties are anti-gun, it would be a simple matter to “thin out the herd”.

Watch MSNBC and CNN. They are not news stations anymore. They are 24-7 editorial pages, but refuse to admit it. I no longer watch either and, evidently, that number is growing every day.

We all want a FREE PRESS, but what we have now is anything but FREE.

The media is controlled and managed by a handful of powerful Deep State Marxists who are attempting to incite violence against our president and incite communist revolution in this country.

Fake News is not Freedom News

I shouldn't be so hard on Hanson. He actually is uite smart and this is a good piece.

The never-Trump aura of the swamp-rags (Nat Review, The Hill, Town Hall et al) is so present, that even positive articles come off as something of a back-hand.

And Town Hall truly is a never-Trump rag.

Correct, VDH is quite smart and consistently conservative.
True he was not one of the first onboard the Trump Train, but he's always been fair and nearly always supportive.
I'll pick him for our team any day.

This particular article make the very important point that plenty of other presidents have battled the press, at least on occasion, plus, just as often the press itself snuggled up to presidents who did them serious damage, BHO for example.

So, bottom line, there's no particular correlation between the volume of media complaints against the President and the actual level of presidential actions against them.
The media complains loudest about presidents they dislike , while singing sweetness and praise of those they love, regardless of actual behavior.

Then there’s the t-shirts and handkerchiefs. Then the socks again. The ironing never gets done.

The thing the MSM needs to concern itself with is not that President Trump bashes them - but that it works. Why does it work? Who do vast swathes of the public agree with him when he bashes the media as biased and dishonest?

Of course, they lack the integrity to ask such a basic question. They know they wouldn’t like the answers if they took an honest look at themselves.
