The scary thing is that there are many, many people who are going to vote for this “socialism dream”, because they run on 100% emotions and zero fact based decisions. We all see them, they are the ones who, when asked “who will pay for all this” will just escalate and yell “rich people and corporations”. They lack the ability to think using reason and fact, and they are going to show up at the polls and vote for what “feels good” to them.
One thing about Democrat Socialists, I think in the end they do (as a writer in the article mentions) want to destroy our free markets (I hate to use the word capitalism because it’s a term coined by Marx and Engels in Das Capital) so they don’t actually care about the costs.
Bearing that in mind I think there are two ways to come at Democratic Socialists other than the cost aspect. The first is to ask them if they can name a socialist country wherein the people have more liberty, freedom and rights than we do here. They may say something like Sweeden or another Scandinavian country, but if you look closely at these countries, they are in fact not socialists at all!!
The other point I would make with them is that if you destroy our free market they have to come to the logical conclusion that it will destroy us as the economic and world power that we currently are. Play that out, we recede from the world stage and they would have to agree that power abhors a vacuum. Some country or many countries would vie to take our place. What does that lead to? War, misery etc... If we collapsed, it could be argued that another world war could be on the horizon. One that could potentially end with nuclear engagements.
“Socialism: Since the Democratic Party took a turn for the worse toward so-called democratic socialism, the party’s leading lights have laid the promises on pretty thick. Free Medicare for all! Guaranteed income! Guaranteed jobs! Subsidized housing! Free college! Universal pre-school! Wow, and all for free.”
The first question for any politician who promises all that should be, “If I get all that for free, why on Earth would I need or want a job?” No one with everything free and a guaranteed income would be stupid enough to want a job too.
Free ticket to Venezuela...
Socialism cannot be imposed without a violent revolutionary act. "Democratic" socialism merely puts that act off for later.
