Ending a five-year moratorium, the Trump administration Wednesday took a first step toward opening 1.6 million acres of California public land to fracking and conventional oil drilling, triggering alarm bells among environmentalists.
The U.S. Bureau of Land Management said its considering new oil and natural gas leases on BLM-managed lands in Fresno, San Luis Obispo and six other San Joaquin Valley and Central Coast counties. Meanwhile, activists in San Luis Obispo are pushing a ballot measure this fall to ban fracking and new oil exploration in the county.
If BLM goes ahead with the plan, it would mark the first time since 2013 that the agency has issued a new lease for oil or gas exploration in California, according to the Center for Biological Diversity, which immediately vowed to fight the move. California is the nations third largest oil-producing state, after Alaska and Texas, with much of the production concentrated in the southern San Joaquin Valley and Southern California.
The Trump administration is trying to sell off our public lands again, said Clare Lakewood, a senior attorney with the Center for Biological Diversity in San Francisco. The federal government oversees about 15 million acres of public lands in California, and leases some of them for private use by contractors.

And the environazis are foaming at the mouth apoplectic.
Because there's nothing they can do to stop it. It's all Federal Land (damn feds).
Just wait until the timber leases open up north lol
Winning!!!
Excellent!
Go, Trump, MAGA!
And we all said, “Hell yeah!!”
Magnificent Bastard!
The Center for Biological Diversity is a Deep Green lawfare group.
They are dedicated to stopping a resource development, everywhere in the U.S.
They are a very nasty organization.
With any luck the EPA is no longer channeling millions of dollars into their coffers with very friendly “settlements”.
NOW there will be the energy to power Desal Plants along the coast of Central California!
Next fight is to build the Desal Plants.
EPA used to feed these guys proprietary information and money...along with encouragement to sue over the trivial.
That way EPA could settle the suit and further the goals of the commies. The “consent” being codified by a Federal Court.
It was all a scam.
And it’s over now. And the enviros are desperate, foaming at the mouth desperate.
“NOW there will be the energy to power Desal Plants along the coast of Central California!”
We should build nukes for that.
Next stop: Nuke Plant permits by the DOE.
GOOD..!!!
somebody tell Clare its not our land its open to all the populations of invaders/tresspassers
“Meanwhile, activists in San Luis Obispo are pushing a ballot measure this fall to ban fracking and new oil exploration in the county.”
Pissing int he wind. But it won’t stop the radicals from burning oil equipment.
It’ll be like drilling in hostile 3rd world nations and be a boon to oilfield security services.
This is a Stable Genius move. Take it right to Jerry Brown & the enviroweenies.
Meanwhile, activists in San Luis Obispo are pushing a ballot measure this fall to ban fracking and new oil exploration in the county.
They even acknowledge it will have no impact on Federal Land.
A very large portion of the county.
I think they'd rather see what happens to a “mature forest” when it dies and makes kindling wood..then they can say....the fires are caused by globul warming!!!..we've got to do something!!!...Ban plastic straws!!!!!!
Yes, a very radical, bad outfit. They helped shut down a jeep trail near me because they declared a stream crossed the dirt trail and off road vehicles crossing it was a threat to wildlife. Yes, you might say a stream did cross it, one day a year during rare heavy rains.
